1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Quote from jksn922:

I see absolutely no other news source whatsoever indicating that Geithner is re-considering his stance on the trader tax. Politico appears to be the only one that says this, and since their reporting seems to be made up half of the time, I wouldn't give much cred. to this. I see a few blog sites that have spread the story from Politico, but again, no other news outlet saying this, not even trader tax loving CNBC. If this were true, CNBC would have this as a breaking news story plastered all over their website, and on T.V.

I agree. Pelosi said she talked to Geithner 'this week.' We can assume it was probably not yesterday - and we know Geithner said no to the tax in his 5:00 EST interview on Fox Business yesterday (Thursday). So I'm still saying Geither was referring to an insurnace fee on banks and Pelosi turned that around and ran with it...

Harkin

http://blogs.desmoinesregister.com/...harkin-backs-tax-on-wall-street-transactions/

Harkin said the measure was not intended to punish Wall Street. However, he and others in Congress have been very critical about how the industry was seen as spending the $800-billion bank bailout passed last year.

“I don’t look upon it as any kind of way of punishment or anything like that,” Harkin said. “I mean, we’re just looking for revenue. We’re looking for ways of getting out of this hole we’re in.”

Pelosi talked with Geithner on Wednesday and didn't understand what he meant.

His official position is the one from yesterday...

Now one should understand how it is that politics has nothing to do with good economics....nothing...

If the US was really serious about creating jobs it would be replacing the tax code with a consumption tax only....10% to the states....5% to the Fed....no other taxes....

THIS WOULD CREATE JOBS....AND TAKE IN FAR MORE REVENUE THAN THE CURRENT FAILING SYSTEM....AND MAKE THE US ...

THE USA !!!!!!!

There would be a labor shortage in the US....

The Polys are from "Hollywood".....

In addition, with Geithner's deep ties to Wall Street, if there were any notion whatsoever to the Obama administration changing their position on this, you know that Wall Street would be one of the first to know about it, through Geithner. If that were to occur, word would spread like wildfire from Wall Street, and would be major news everywhere.

Harkin said the measure was not intended to punish Wall Street. However, he and others in Congress have been very critical about how the industry was seen as spending the $800-billion bank bailout passed last year.

I dont look upon it as any kind of way of punishment or anything like that, Harkin said. I mean, were just looking for revenue. Were looking for ways of getting out of this hole were in.

From the same article, Harkin is quoted as saying:

“I don’t look upon it as any kind of way of punishment or anything like that,” Harkin said. “I mean, we’re just looking for revenue. We’re looking for ways of getting out of this hole we’re in.” Still, Harkin noted how some investment banks had continued to pay big bonuses after the bailout, and that they could afford the tax.

This is beyond naive. He claims he doesn't want to punish Wall Street and that they can afford the tax? What about Main Street, Senator Harkin? What about the lost jobs resulting from the decline in retail volume? What about the wider bid/ask spreads that will hurt everybody? There is a comment section after this article in the Iowa paper. It wouldn't hurt Senator Harkin to hear the harm that will come of this idiotic proposal.

...........................................

1000% correct

The real question is why do the current set of
Polys want to pursue a failed system ?

A 10/5 C tax only would sent the US into a new Golden Era.....

The polys could care less about their voters....

This is OBVIOUS....

They will say and do anything for votes....

That's it ....

They have their own HIGHLY FLAWED agendas.....

or that they consider mainstreet as animals like did in the Iron mountain report...

we by this discussion are proving them that we can unite to discuss what's important for us... and that trough our real short term approach we wake up nearly all at the same time... that's magik ;)

the real problem is their "real" agenda... not the 2500 bs proposition of the agenda 21...
