1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Quote from rsikit:

This is interesting, Ethical Currency Broker? Is that an Oxymoron:) This was from cnbc world, a broker that automatically adopts the currencey "Tobin Tax" which generally is said to be at .005% which is about 5 bucks per hundred thousand dollars. Now I trade currencies, and f something like a transaction tax passes, this much I can live with and it would raise money and not put anyone out of work! The one they are mentioning now is ridiculous for .25% Seems the currency tax, is most wanted by the NGO'S and from most of the papers I have read it is .005% The number the communists like DeFazio and Baker are putting out are utterly ridiculous. I love how the afl -cio says non productive we dont add to society, how about we take care for our families purchase food , vehicles, homes doesnt that add to the economy. We dont all have to work in a factory, I dont think they realize that.

"Company campaigning for currency transaction levy. The world's first foreign exchange broker to donate part of its turnover to charity launched today."

How willing would his company donate a mandatory 0.005% of transactions if he ran a years worth of losing trades?

One thing is voluntary donation, mandatory tax is another story.

Crap like this makes people hate traders and look at them as a bunch of greedy degenerates.

This is exactly what I pictured myself doing when I decided to become a trader! From the article:

"And in one recruiting Web video (no longer online), an Optiver trader sitting before four giant trading screens is seen ogling two skimpily clad women as they sit on his thighs."

I want to be on the other side of your trades while u are ogling. u will feed my family for months. maybe years.
this transaction tax could put u out of business.

so when we are put out of work as traders, i was thinking what to do next and heck it might not be too bad. I can become a Community Organizer! (ha ha) sorry was too good to not pass up!

That was a fun idea years ago, but if you do that now, your own complacency will eat you up and spit you out.

Yes, as the other gentleman implied... Please keep ogling women throughout the day so I can take your money.

I've seen your posts on previous P/L threads.

Couldn't you just retire, sit in your rocking chair on a porch with some lemonade and watch it all happen?

i hear ya, just hard to think of NOT trading. but, been diversifing into land and development. much easier when you have a positive cash flow. so no lemonade, on the porch ability!
