1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

how about a "wealth tax"? an asset tax....just one time to help pay the deficit?

if you have the money 'cause you made the money in the past, then pay some out to help the US deficit....makes sense to me (for real)

Anything is possible under socialism, including expropriation and confiscation.

Agreed gk...

The more attempts to orchestrate such a complex thing as a national economy (especially US or other developed nation) the wronger it goes. Look at the tax code, a bumbled mess that only lawyers and accountants can figure out (more uselessness, right?). Just scrap the whole thing and start over instead of making it a patchwork mess. A patchwork quilt can be nice, but not a patchwork tax code (or country for that matter).

Let the "Guiding Hand" sort it out for the most part!

What I don't understand is how something ("reckless speculation") that does not add value to the economy but at the same time puts the same economy at risk? Are those people parasites?

yes, traders (speculators) are parasites.

No, they are hard working worms. As the soil needs the worms churning it the markets need the traders.

Ewan MacGregor said speculators are vultures. So now we have parasites, worms and vultures...any more?!

that's great gkishot!

hard working worms, exactly!

the worms aren't in it so that the grass grows green, they are in it for themselves but the grass takes advantage of the worms and grows greener and healthier for it, the grass sees the worms as annoying and useless because they keep bothering their roots and wish they were gone, people see the grass and think how beautiful and green, paying no mind to the worms who till the soil....they do pay mind to the worms for fishing though, then they are happy that the worms exist!

vultures, maybe, let nature work the way it ought to work...nobody likes the vultures, screw them....vultures serve a purpose, worms serve a purpose, parasites serve a purpose, and even if they DIDN'T THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO EXIST, try to tinker with nature and it's plain to see what happens

Exactly, even vultures serve a purpose.
