I don't live in a state with teaching unions. Maybe in places like NYC you can blaming teaching unions.... but many states don't allow teachers to unionize.

I think bigarrow has fallen off a few roofs too many. You know, one doesn't always land feet first on many of those occasions. Tuck and roll doesn't work when you hit head first on the driveway. :D

The current standards are that you need a four year degree in education, have one semester student teaching in a class-room, pass the Praxis 1 and 2 tests for your subject area(s), and have a perfectly clean criminal background to get your teaching license.

What do you think the standards should be? Most other professions have similar requirements. Go into law, you need to get your JD degree and pass the bar exam. Go into RN nursing, you need your 4 year nursing degree with one semester practical, and pass your state licensing exams. Many other similar examples...
