Ergotron has served me well. I just to run three 20" widescreen on them and have replaced them with two 28" widescreens and the stand supports them well.

Just make the drive you want to access a shared drive. That's it. The actual process is a little different depending on what operating system (OS) you're running. If I'm presuming you're running a Windows based OS, just make sure file and printer sharing is enabled for your home LAN...

I run a G450 16mb dual head card on XP Pro so you shouldn't have any trouble running in on XP Home. The output is indeed analog and you won't have to worry about refresh rates since LCDs are set at a specific refresh rate (mostly 60hz). And 256 color? You'll be fine with a 4-8meg dual head...
