Moving to Monterey Bay Area: Any Tips?

Quote from blackjack007:

$2000/mo is gonna get you some piece of crap rental. if you're ok with that, then go for it.

the people who say monterey is frigid in winter probably grew up in palm springs. it gets into the 40s at night and high 50s during the day in the winter and it never snows. compared to 85% of the usa, this is considered balmy.

it's a nice place to visit but you'll find it boring if you're accustomed to a large metro area.

i just need a reasonable house. you can see in one of the previous posts that Pacific Grove offers many houses 2k and even below.

moist ocean wind when it is 40 degrees is worse than snow and no wind IMO.

I will be relocating to the Monterey Bay Area (CA) in the next couple of months. I plan to rent ~2 BR house 2,000-2,300/mo range.

Any suggestions as far best areas to live in? Basically, I want peace and quiet so that I could concentrate on trading.

Right now I'm trading full time and don't hold other jobs.

i live in salinas, you should move here, the crime is low...

By now I have excluded Salinas from my list. It is all relative I guess: 1/1000 chance of being killed within a year could be low or high depending on one's point of view.

somebody expressed complaints about internet stability in the Santa Cruz/Monterey areas. Are both cable and dsl unstable? depends on the provider?

well hopefully you caught some sense of sarcasm from my post. i'm not sure what providers are in the monterey/sc area but in salinas there is basically two choices, comcast & at&t. at&t offers u-verse in some areas & the comcast is pretty reliable from what i have heard. i use at&t dsl and never really had problems with it

I'm up here in San Francisco but do visit Salinas/Monterey area to visit a friend or on a motorcycle ride. Beautiful weather throughout most of the year.

You'll love it here in California, no shortage of great things to do :D
