John Paulson testimony financial crisis committee http://www.valuewalk.com/financial-crisis/john-paulsons-testimony-financial-crisis-committee/ Amazing how he says CDSs on subprime garbage was a buy even as late as dec 2006 even though home prices weren't going nowhere

Is it possible to separate an IB account into many accounts for different strategies?

Does the subaccounts hurt your buying power in the main account(does the securities in the subaccount count towards your margin)?

Trading now taught in many Universities

The failure rate of businesses I believe is upwards to 80% in 5 years(or something like that). Yet business degress and MBAs are taught everywhere. A trading course might get a talented trader a faster path towards contacts, capital, technical skills(like how to work a Bloomberg terminal), etc

Trading now taught in many Universities

Don't know if this has been posted before but I thought it was interesting that trading is now being taught in some US colleges http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2010/12/29/where-homework-is-managing-a-200000-stock-portfolio/

Why most pro traders are gamblers, and why risk control prevents success with OPM

Not at all. Take George Soros for instance, he decided to close his aggressive hedge fund in 2000 because the drawdowns were too painful to handle emotionally. He could have made more money by running his money that way(making a few huge selected bets every year) but instead choose an...

Sold most of my long stock exposure after the close today(Was a short-term play). My lack of nuclear expertise cost me some money as I gave back some of that on the yen and a bit on the franc. I should avoid playing around in areas I dont know much about, obviously

Actually you are correct there(Btw, was there any CDS on Argentina when they defaulted?). Your Yen trade might be a better idea(Though perhaps OTM puts on JGB could be avaliable)

But the cost of betting some of these fat tails can be very small. Someone long CDSs could have risked 3-4% of his networth with the potential upside of multiples of that over that 10 year if the analysis was correct

I remember an Trump interview where he scorned housing bubble prophets by saying 'they are calling it a bubble every year since 2002' or something to that effect. I understand the timing thing thats why one has to be careful before taking the other side and size the position well but the...

I agree on both counts(short and long term). Its the long-term thing that the guy from the article seemed to be questioning by arguing that the government is super solvent. At some point shorting JGBs should be an easy trade but if that guy is correct then its not. I understand netting out the...

    Better off as a plumber?

Maybe college is not worth in the US where it costs a fortune and the debts can't be discharged at BK but where I live(Brazil) there are a ton of public universities that charge nothing(but you got to be smart to get in). Furthermore there are paid courses that are taken online and you only...
