until about 15 minutes ago, i would have said you were nuts. now i'm not so sure. post mortem on the day, and I'm seeing, once again, heavy and determined buying into the close. frankly, i'm a bit thunderstruck. perhaps we'll get that gap-filling pullback first--maybe tomorrow--but...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Y'know, I wonder if there's any traction to be had in explaining to people why a tax on financial transactions is NOT analogous to a tax on, say, toothpaste. Rightly or wrongly, goods and services are taxes at the retail level. They are not taxed on the wholesale level, because acquire...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Robert, I thought you really nailed it a couple of months ago in an impassioned post about this "mean" tax--how it would destroy jobs, etc. It was a beaut. And it really reflected, I thought, the zeitgeist. These are weird times in which someone like Newt Gingrich thinks he can make...

    ES Journal - 2012

I did not mean to say that it couldn't be done successfully. In fact, I believe I said my stops--mental stops based on the market condition--tend to be quite tight, especially in proportion to the potential reward. But for some people--myself included--tight mechanical stops are death. They...

    ES Journal - 2012

I used to trade "tight." My two point stops used to clobber me. Not any more. Not since I started parking my stops 10 points away from my entries. Not that I ever, EVER let them go that far. Now I know within a point or two whether I'm wrong, and then I'm out. (Every once is a while, it's...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

If my understanding is correct, it will do more than destroy any financial district in France; it will actually destroy any France-headquartered financial firm. I believe it would impose the tax on any transaction executed anywhere in the world by any firm headquartered in France.
