Coronavirus: Boris Johnson moved to intensive care as symptoms worsen

I can't control how someone responds to a post pointing out something as boring and non-controversial as the probability distribution of chapter 7 bankruptcies/liquidations, sorry.

Coronavirus: Boris Johnson moved to intensive care as symptoms worsen

Chill out there bruddah, supposed to be a friendly discussion. If we're specifically talking about what would happen in a Walmart liquidation we're making so many assumptions that it's almost not meaningful. It would mean that Walmart went right past chapter 11 to chapter 7, which would mean...

Coronavirus: Boris Johnson moved to intensive care as symptoms worsen

Or you can find a single example to proof you are right, no? You're asserting that the most common or even a common outcome of a chapter 7/liquidation bankruptcy is something on the order of "In a very short time big pieces of the company, including the employees, were taken over by...

    Does Forex swap bothers you?

Make the bots go away! This is getting to be absurd.

    XLE and its dividends

Yes, and IMHO dividends are absolutely pointless because of that.

Coronavirus: Boris Johnson moved to intensive care as symptoms worsen

You're talking past each other. You're fixated on financial performance as the only meaningful metric. The ESG folks are saying that financial performance isn't the only meaningful metric. So arguing that ESG won't outperform SPY isn't really a meaningful argument against that point.

    Is Price an illusion?

Obviously life is an illusion, therefore price as something you observe must also be an illusion.

How many Sears stores were taken over and jobs maintained when they went bankrupt? Apples and oranges.

Thinking of hiring a programmer... Help very welcomed

I don't know, in my experience the arb opportunity days are long gone on that. You might get someone good at a 25% discount (and the commiserate language, time zone, and remote work difficulties), but definitely not a 75% discount. You may well be able to find someone good at sub-$100K but...

Thinking of hiring a programmer... Help very welcomed

A couple of thoughts to add: 1. If you do this you're tied to IB, not matter how much they suck or how much they screw you. The sunk cost fallacy will kick your ass on this one, ask me how I know! So I highly recommend you do a search here for every IB complaint and make sure you're reasonably...

    Business interruption insurance

What is up with these bot posts! It's like they found the word "insurance" in the thread and then posted a random screed about insurance that has nothing to do with the actual discussion. This seems to be happening all over ET in the past 2 weeks, I've blocked at least 20 of them during that...

    XLE and its dividends

It sounds like you may be mistaking the last dividend as representative of the next dividend? Unlike a company that "sets" their dividend, an ETF just distributes what the underlying companies have paid out. If you're already into the accumulation period, then dividends already paid to the fund...

    Business interruption insurance

Also worth looking at if this is covered in many policies. It isn't in mine, more on the line of floods, fires and the like. But I only have it because a customer's boiler plate contract requires it, so I definitely got the cheapest version available and not sure how representative it is.

Short Seller That Targeted Luckin Coffee Takes Aim at China’s iQIYI

What is with all these 7 post wonders who have popped up in the last few days making either stupid or meaningless comments? Is it a bot experiment of some kind?

Can one choose to not settle an ITM option at expiry?

Some options cash settle, SPX for example. I believe all single stock options settle with delivery though.

Coronavirus: Boris Johnson moved to intensive care as symptoms worsen

I don't think we disagree really. I was all for the pivot to Asia to contain China's maritime ambitions, back when we had a President and foreign policy team who could actually formulate coherent foreign policy. I'm all for countering China's foreign aid with our own and winning the hearts and...

    Basic income

At some point though Yang's premise will play out. You get more and more automation and fewer and fewer blue collar jobs. You end up with a group of folks who may be hard working good people but either lack the intellect to be part of the knowledge economy or are aged out of it and lack the...

Cheaper financing than IB's margin rates?

It's less that and more of their underlying business model. Their model is to be lowest price. To get that you have to be lowest cost. To achieve that they hire a couple of smart people and have them build a software package that automates most of what humans do in other brokers. Then they hire...

Coronavirus: Boris Johnson moved to intensive care as symptoms worsen

Moving the goal posts a bit aren't we, going from the specific recent items you listed to people killed more than half a century ago under Mao? Mao was a horrible person and horrible things happened under his government, you certainly aren't going to get anyone to argue against that. This isn't...

Coronavirus: Boris Johnson moved to intensive care as symptoms worsen

How many people died in all the actions you listed together, sum total? Hundreds? How many people died in Iraq since the U.S. invaded directly attributable to the invasion and resultant failed state? About 500,000. Not even in the same order of magnitude. And spy equipment? Please, the U.S. has...
