I think IB has a 2k minimum balance required to make a trade. So an account of 2k is skating on thin ice, you might not even be able to exit a position.

It is a zerosum game with the share holding. You can be flat, long or short. Total net of position is what counts at the end of the day.

Why would you want to temporary freeze the drawdown? What difference does it make? Could make sense for margin, psychological or taxes reason... Or if you want to take a short term trade against your long term positions, otherwise technically I see no advantage.

You would be just freezing your loss. It is possible with some fx, cfd bucket shop brokers, some might even offset margins (-drawdown), and some people believe this is a method. But people believe in all kind of weird stuff...
