I agree understanding the market is difficult using reason. The charts are your only friends. I am very fond of the RSI indicator. The stochastics work well when going sideways in the 20/80 zones. here's a good example showing what a strong trend looks like...

Hi, I think simple moving averages is as easy as it gets for keeping simple. I like to create an evelope using a 3,-3 and a 9ma. I like to offset a 9,-9ma sometimes. The 9ma, 40ma, 200ma rule! then you get into the multi-MA ribbon charts.....color code to fibonacci...

Hi, I think RSI is as reliable as any indicator. I like a simple RSI(4) <>50 usually works any interval. I'd like to see a chart of yours showing that formula in action. I don't have an RSI chart infront of me but, This simple 40ma cross over chart gives just as good a signal IMO...
