house traders catching a falling knife

Who's gonna buy the boomer's houses? There have been some people making the point that big cap stocks have been weak because the public has been selling for the last few years, and the public is in blue chips. Could be same for houses for next 20 years . . . More supply than demand.

'The Traders Who Skip Most of the Day'

Shorter version of this article: these guys are unemployed. They might make some money trading, but no mention is made of how much capital they have. I suspect it's pretty large. They sold out of their specialist firm at the top.

    traders more profitable than Apple

Another interesting point made in the article is that average performance of the fund is different from average performance of an investor. A fund that returns 50%/year for five years with small assets and then loses 50% with substantially more assets can generate a negative return per dollar...

    Kirk Report 2008 Trading Performance?

After his recent redesign of his site, it looks like he's saying that he's beaten the market every year of his career. He also includes stats from 2000-2007. Every year is positive and the arithmetic mean is around 33%. The performance link is buried deep in the middle of this section...

    generating 1000 $ per month on 150 k investment

I would put most of it in dividend paying stocks. There is a real demand for bonds and a fear of stocks . . . so many of these companies pay more in dividends than they do on bonds. And many companies trade for less than their cash, which is just as good as money.

Dan Loeb's TPP for 16% off

http://www.londonstockexchange.com/exchange/prices-and-news/stocks/exchange-insight/trade-data.html?fourWayKey=GG00B1YQ7219GGUSDSSMU Interesting trading in TPOU . . . over 150000 shares trade at 8, but the bid is at $7.85, where a few thousand shares trade. If you can put in a bid at...

options . . . very hard to make money

When you combine the bid/ask and the the zero-sum aspect of options trading, it is a bit like the 20% take at the horsetrack. But apparently if only I had the "right attitude" and "worked hard enough" and learned to put on complicated 7-leg positions after buying somebody's 12 month mentoring...

If you can predict the timing and the extent of a move, then you've solved 100% of the problem. Yes, if I knew McAfee was going to be acquired, I would buy options too.

options . . . very hard to make money

To take the other side of the argument, there do seem to be ways to make money in options. There may be some bivalent outcomes that are better played with options, taking advantage of the "convexity," as one poster put it. Adam Warner at DailyOptionsReport seems to have some strategies that...

options . . . very hard to make money

I wouldn't pay anything for mentoring. Trading is more like dieting than knowing how to play the piano . . . Everybody knows how to lose weight, they just don't follow the plan. If there is a way to make money in options, it should be for sale at Amazon.

options . . . very hard to make money

"Plenty of people earn a living from the options market. But it's not easy." Really? Any names? "It's not easy" is a flaw, not a feature.
