    Futures or Stocks?! The truth

Well, I spent alot of time trying to trade futures profitably, and could never break over break-even. I'm trading stocks now and consistently making fairly good money. As far as I can tell, it is alot easier to find a tradeable edge in stocks. Kind of makes all of those other points irrelevant.

One of the reasons I like Position Trading

Hmm, well, I don't know if I would say anywhere, but I have found with my longer term trades that I don't need to stare at the screen for an hour + and try to nail an entry to the penny to be successful. I might be able to squeeze out extra return by refining my entries, but then again, I might...

What did you learn this year?

I didn't say lines on a chart are bogus, I said I trade better not looking at them. A visual plot of past price action isn't the only thing to base trade decisions on, ya know? I am averaging a bit over 1%/day return on my account trading like this. At this point in time, I have no...

What did you learn this year?

That is also my most important lesson this year. I also moved out my timeframe to where I am holding things from 2-10 days (not very popular around here, I know). I learned that I can spend 20 minutes a day adjusting my positions and then spend the rest of the day doing something besides...

    Milk it or scrap it?

Quote from rickty: Agyar, Your results look very good to me. In fact, they may be too good; That's what I'm afraid of. Do you really need tick data? You can get good quality 1 minute ES data very cheaply. I think I could get away with 1 minute data actually now that I think...

    Milk it or scrap it?

I did not include commissions, but they aren't too much of an impact as this system only trades about 3 times per week. The net profit is about 2 points per contract per trade, after commissions.

    Milk it or scrap it?

Yes I agree with what you are saying to some extent... but then I come back to my high level question. If you had a system that was making a ton of money, but you KNEW it was based on "market character" as acrary would say, would you still trade it and just monitor it for failure? It seems a...

    Milk it or scrap it?

So... I've developed a system with the following characteristics. This is only one year of tick data on ES because that is all I have. Number of trades: 150 Profit Factor: 2.41 % profitable: 60.5% Avg. win/Avg. loss: 1.57 Sharpe: 1.2 There is a max of one trader per day. This system...

Is anyone familiar with John Carter?

I found some of the high level, general knowledge in the book slightly useful, but all of the detailed information on setups and such was pretty useless I thought. The market profile section was really poorly written too. Made Jack Hershey seem like a communication wizard. Most/all of their...

    safety of aspartame/nutrasweet

Oh and as far as helping you lose weight, diet sodas are the WRONG PATH. This study from the University of Texas is pretty enlightening. "What didn't surprise us was that total soft drink use was linked to overweight and obesity," Fowler tells WebMD. <B>"What was surprising was when we...

    safety of aspartame/nutrasweet

Who's to say that aspartame isn't one of the contributors to the weight problem in this country? (there are obviously many contributors, or we would have found and squashed the one cause by now) I have done enough "testing" on myself to convince myself that aspartame causes some pretty severe...

Aspartame gives me wicked headaches, so I stay far away from it.

Do foreign futures qualify for 1256 tax treatment?

Was contemplating trying my hand at trading the Nikkei, but was curious if it qualified for 60/40 tax treatment. Anyone know? I'd also be interested in a few of the big European contracts like the DAX and the ESTX50. P.S. - if it isn't obvious, I'm in the US.

Wal-Mart says 'auf wiedersehen' to Germany

I'm not particularly surprised either. I have some good friends in Germany and Switzerland and have some insight into their way of doing things. When Europeans spend money, they usually spend it on an experience (going out to clubs, travelling, etc.) or on fashion items, and not the "stuff"...

This thread also needs some Matthias Eklundh but I can't find any good stuff on YouTube. Here's a little promo bit to give you a taste. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fdlke8EsuU His "mainstream" band Freak Kitchen, which is only mainstream compared to his experimental/fusion metal stuff...

Wal-Mart says 'auf wiedersehen' to Germany

Alot of the stuff in Walmart is crap. Definitely agree there. I have only been in a Walmart maybe twice in the last couple years, because I was travelling and didn't have another option. I'm not much into buying piles of useless crap like most of America.

I'm not sure how much you will get out of it not being a fan, but I LOVED Mindcrime 1 when they did it on the last tour. If they are actually using the actors and stuff they were using last time, I'll probably go again. If the singer happens to be "on", you are in for a real treat. Even if he...

Wal-Mart says 'auf wiedersehen' to Germany

German cars may have lasted a long time in the PAST, but so did US cars. They've both gone down the crapper in recent years I'd say. I won't buy anything but Japanese currently. Seems Consumer Reports disagrees with you too...

    Difference in ES tick volume

I did a side by side on a system I have that is very sensitive to volume, and Esignal was consistently missing about 10-15% of the volume that I was getting from IQFeed. Yet another thing I hate about Esignal... but I can't quite ween myself off of them yet because there are some features that...
