IB ticket response time positive surprise

True but I've put in banking tickets in the past, and they've never been responded to faster than the end of the next business day.

IB ticket response time positive surprise

Credit where credit is due. I've always (like most) had questionable feelings about IB's ticket response time. So was I pleasantly surprised when yesterday, after the market close, I put in a banking inquiry and a response was provided within 2 hours....! Hopefully a new trend and not...

    IB and Reuters News Feed

Oooh this sounds useful. SHould advertise it somewhere. Though a discount arrangement with briefing.com's inplay would be even better.

IB changes interest calc from LIBOR to Fed Funds

In an email sent out today -- effective Sept 1. I would hope it should not impact EFPs bec I would think the population of EFP traders is larger than the IB customer base, but who knows.

    IB Margin requirements

Though, is there any way to economically protect against a 20 sigma financial market event? Curiously, it's been almost 20 years since one...

    IB Margin requirements

For what it is worth: On the quarterly conf call, Petterfy explained the purchase of the claim. His side of the story (paraphrased) was that the effort, distraction and likelihood of recovery are such that the economics make it inappropriate for IB to pursue, but out of a sense of going...

    IB Margin requirements

I agree with the sentiment but I hope the statistics are not true bec of so ET members (79,354 as of this writing) would make up what.... 85+% of IB's customer base? :-)

is this true about a limit order in general

Interesting! Can you say a little bit more -- esp on the following 2 points: 1. Is there a rule that requires providing 1MM shares in liquidity at the inside quote by (I assume) the specialist? (if not, I'd assume the marketable limit order can exhaust available liquidity and have the quote...

    re-open account with IB?

I also feel this thread is not that constructive but I will add one comment. I don't buy the story about "years" of inactivity for a U.S.-based firm. Depending on the state, after a certain period of inactivity, the account must be surrendered to the state as an abandoned account. This is...

    IB Secure Device

Well, I don't think it's even "that" simple bec the ADRs will need to be converted back to regular shares, and then moved back to Australia.... It's probably better to sell the ADRs here, though you may get a rip off price. Generally, I am very cautious about non-sponsored ADRs. It's...

IB: is wiring out a problem?

Generally much of IB is non functional Saturday through some time Sunday morning (they say noon though I find it is usually back by 11 for my account so I can get stuff done before lunch).

    Two Accounts with IB Possible?

Haven't tried it but I believe so. My beef is you can't do FOP transfer of positions between accounts to the best of my knowledge.

IB ratings on elitetraders (what its going on?)

Definitely. Note also that banks who back the margin can also force through changes. A participant in the markets needs to have backup credit facilities for times of credit panic. If not, both Bear Stearns and Countrywide would be in chapter 11 already. Why should individuals be any different.

    Odd-Lot orders NOT wanted!!

Bec odd lot quotes are not displayed, not protected, more expensive to execute on ECNs.... hedging strategies with options cover round lot multiples.. so if you put in an order to buy 500 shares and get 38 shares, it's a big nuisance. What the hell do you do with the 38 shares? Now you try to...

    Odd-Lot orders NOT wanted!!

Most brokers will charge one fee per day. Moreover, AONs have another issue. They are not natively supported by most exchanges so you get a simulated order vs a limit order in the book. This lowers your priority, and also means the order is not a protected order under NMS.

    Withdrawals from IB

One note on the money market scare thought: SIPC insures up to 100k in cash in your IB account. Same limit as FDIC at a bank. Though in modern history the Fed has protected 100% of bank deposits assuming it's a major bank. :-) I guess Treasurys in your name would be better than the...

Brokerage changes rules and wipes out my account. Is there any recourse?

While in general, the liquidation was warranted and justified, this looks like an error and worth talking to compliance about. And if indeed it was an error, to push this issue. Though those are pretty big position sizes!

    Lend

This is the legal arbitrage of the decade and has certainly attracted my intellectual curiosity. There was a small chance that LS would have gone forward. That disappeared on Fri. evening with the LS SEC filing. There is still a small (even smaller) chance that LS would back down and...

    IB saving settings

I meant comparing the contents to see if there's a bad string or some such. I've only had one failed restore and bec I use the restore to move from home to/from office, I restore at least once a day.

    IB saving settings

I never bothered to compare good vs bad tws.xml files. Fortunately, I have tws.xml's going back several weeks on Vista (previous version support is built into Vista's journaling file system).
