why is it called the VIX

It mostly acts inverse to the market.Big selloff equates to more fear, hence higher VIX readings. Implied vol is what it represents.Go read about it on CBOE website, there are some papers about how it is constructed. They will tell you more than you ever wanted to know.

    Millionaire traders

Sure, there were some, but the majority were not.The spread traders seem to have more longevity. There are many traders who have made absolute fortunes that almost nobody has ever heard about. The guy I knew of who did the best wore action slacks and carried a backpack on the floor.He...

    Millionaire traders

Most of the guys I knew, or knew of in Chicago, who made vast amounts of money over a long period of time were spreaders of some sort. Yeild curve traders and option guys mostly.

    Millionaire traders

If I am not mistaken,Cahnman was a treasury spread trader on the floor, nob, fob and the like.I don't think he traded Eurodollars on the floor at the Merc. I know he was one of the early adopters of screen trading. He probably began trading the swap and Eurodollar spreads once he left the floor.
