TA - Objective or Psychological Skill?

Happy that this one is working out for you! But remember, keep a cool head. So far so good :)

TA - Objective or Psychological Skill?

Vix being "too low" means that intraday ranges are tighter and, with only 4 ticks per point in the ES, I found entries and exits were too difficult to manage and not worth the risk involved. The SPY solved that problem as I could end up scratching or making/losing only a couple pennies as...

TA - Objective or Psychological Skill?

Not "thee" secret sauce, but something that works pretty well and has been for some time. I've only traded the ES and SPY, and only ES when Vix is above 18. Otherwise I stick to SPY. Not sure it would work as well in ind equities, but haven't tried it.

TA - Objective or Psychological Skill?

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me aligning two time frames together generates a much better signal that one frame alone. The faster frame's signal MUST activate the slower frame, based on very objective rules, and then a trade is taken. Don't know why this is the case but it's been...

TA - Objective or Psychological Skill?

That makes sense, I wouldn't imagine a simple breakout strat would work in the long run.

TA - Objective or Psychological Skill?

On what time frame? Across how many set's of multiple time frames? Did you include any other indicators overlapped with breakout signals? My guess is you tested something very very simple and have drawn large conclusions based off of that.

Ocean5/TheMagican....why is it you always have a new handle?? Do you keep getting banned or something?

TA - Objective or Psychological Skill?

Most people are bad at controlling their emotions and impulses. Combined with either inexperience and/or poor analytical abilities and we can easily see why so many fail to find consistency.

Thanks, this was essentially my point as well.

Apparently I'm "weird" for picking up on his odd post edit. :)

TA - Objective or Psychological Skill?

You passed it along to an academic or your group? Before you edited your post, you said you passed it to an academic with much more skill than you and now you've changed the post to say that you will take a close look. Which is it?

TA - Objective or Psychological Skill?

You're right of course, these nuances COULD be deeply analyzed and determined and then objectified. My only contention is that it may be too difficult to identify and then create the logic to be coded. I won't say impossible but it would be incredibly tough.

TA - Objective or Psychological Skill?

Ready for the cop out answer.....it can be both! It all depends on how you approach trading. If you are a pure PA trader (PA is a sub set of TA), then I do not believe it is possible to create an objective system because of the many subtle nuances that go into every trading decision. However, if...

    Cornix's TA Performance

Hmmm, very interesting. In your own journal you contradict yourself by saying, and I paraphrase, that you do not suggest how anyone should trade, that you only post how you trade. http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=263424&perpage=6&pagenumber=191 It's weird because...

    Cornix's TA Performance

I didn't structure my system towards an "edge" that would be eliminated. Humans are still behind all the decision making (whether manual or algorithmic) so things haven't really changed. Only volatility needs to be adjusted for. Until AI takes over, I'm not too worried about being phased out of...

I'm still waiting for the mkt to eat my objective system....been waiting since the late 90's. Guess the mkt isn't hungry ;)
