Yes, it was very simple break out strategy. However, if the market is fractal like TA folks believe, why would timeframes or other indicators make a difference?

Quote from R. Raskolnikov:
I can't speak for anyone else, but for me aligning two time frames together generates a much better signal that one frame alone. The faster frame's signal MUST activate the slower frame, based on very objective rules, and then a trade is taken.
Don't know why this is the case but it's been working for many years now. I can't explain the "why", only that it works within the confines of my methods rules. Again, I'm only speaking about my particular concoction. Please don't go opening any two time frames and trying to make something happen.

Because people for a long time didn't believe it's possible to run a mile faster than certain speed (4 minutes if I remember right), let alone driving 250km/h or going to space.![]()

Interesting, thankyou for sharing. You have found the secret sauce, so to speak? What instruments does it work on? surf
Quote from R. Raskolnikov:
Not "thee" secret sauce, but something that works pretty well and has been for some time. I've only traded the ES and SPY, and only ES when Vix is above 18. Otherwise I stick to SPY. Not sure it would work as well in ind equities, but haven't tried it.

Quote from marketsurfer:
Thank you. I would have thought the opposite regarding the VIX, but that's just based on instinct.... I really don't know.
Maybe next time I am in the office, you can stop over and demonstrate this to me. I am very interested in seeing it "in action".

PS-- wonder if this new place is going to make it?? He seems a little late to the party, but who knows??!

...Take breakouts for instance, we tested 100's of thousands of breakout trades and the outcome was overall negative----- but they seem to work for you. This is why I think soon you will hit a large negative streak/ so be careful! this may be why we have different opinions---- i look at the overall performance on the largest data sets available and you base your opinion on personal experience. surf

Perhaps one day someone will succeed in achieving the kind of consistent results that are told of in daytrading folklore. I would love to see someone do it!
