Margin Question. How much buying power if holding all SPY in an account?

Wrong. He already is using 50k of that 200k in his long SPY position. That SPY position is a long term position. So when you take the 50k out, that leaves 150k from the original 200k. Re-read his post.

Margin Question. How much buying power if holding all SPY in an account?

Jeez, this is getting more complicated by the minute. If you fund an account with 50k in "cash" and put exactly 50k into SPY, you will have 25k of that cash go towards spy and the broker will lend you the other 25k and CHARGE you interest. You will also have 25k in cash which is still...

Am option for natural gas price increase

Tom, I'm afraid what you are trying to do is much more complicated then it looks. Natty could rise substantially and your UNG won't go up a single penny. You really need to get into futures and study the forward curve. Natty has some seasonality quirks to it based on the summer and winter...

Margin Question. How much buying power if holding all SPY in an account?

If you buy 50k worth of SPY, you will have 25k left to trade. If you max out your account and buy 100k worth of spy, that will take up 50k in cash and 50k in margin leaving you with no money to trade.

Why stock options are not popular in the UK? & options broker accepting UK resident?

Yeah I was going to say that. The stamp tax makes it almost possible to be profitable trading options. Not sure why anyone would.

Margin Question. How much buying power if holding all SPY in an account?

His question was worded very poorly. I don't know if he was asking if he meant using up all his buying power or using up all his cash. He bailed on the thread so I guess it's a moot point. Makes me wonder why I ever bother responding to newbies on here. All he needs to know is he cannot...

Margin Question. How much buying power if holding all SPY in an account?

I think what he meant was, if he held an SPY position long term, can he borrow against the "position" to daytrade. The answer is yes, if he only buys 50k worth of SPY, he can daytrade with half of it. If he meant he wanted to daytrade the SPY and not hold ANYTHING over night, then yes, he can...

Margin Question. How much buying power if holding all SPY in an account?

It's 50% margin. So you could buy 50k worth of spy and still have 50k left in cash. If you meant that you wanted to leverage the SPY position completely as in buying 100k of SPY, then you have no money left over. Just be aware you are paying interest on that 50k that may not cover any profits...

EchoTrade - what's up with them?

Yeah when Don said he had a confidentiality agreement with Echo he pretty much stated he took them over. Why he can't just say that is interesting. The more this industry consolidates, the worse it is for the trader. Less choice is not a good thing.

EchoTrade - what's up with them?

Doesn't T-3 charge even MORE then Bright? I heard a LOT more. I give credit to T-3 for trying to evolve with the market. Don's operation is pretty much doing the same thing today they did in 1999. No offense Don, but this is why companies have young guys take over the ship and run things...

    The ACD Method

Sorry for the late response. Yes, koolaid is correct. Remember, price does not invalidate trades, time does. So sharp movements in price against a signal do not invalidate them. So if you get a buy signal and a spike down after, especially on some random news event, that's usually a gift you...

What's The Best Way To Convert This Edge Into Money?

There are no "truths" in trading. What people do with statistical analysis in regards to trading is to try to figure out how much of their result is just plain luck. Or put another way, how much of that "profit factor" is due strictly to variance. In trading you cannot simply take 53...

    Eurodollar spreading

CD, Marty is saying to use the Fed Funds as your surrogate for the T-bill Rate. The Fed funds is a risk free rate. Libor is not. Therefore a spread between Fed Funds and Libor will create a credit spread. Fed funds trade every month out probably 10 years or so. CME's website will tell you...

    The ACD Method

I would not initiate a new position EXACTLY ahead of a binary event. More often then not, ACD triggers signals several days before hand so you often get a nice cushion going into large volatility events. What I do like to do is if I did get a signal ahead of such an event and that event...

What's The Best Way To Convert This Edge Into Money?

Always the one pimping Topstep? I "pimp" them, as you put it, not for guys to get backing, but for guys to realize the value of their day job and not trade. Pretty much the same advice I'm offering you here. Do you really think someone is going to back you?

What's The Best Way To Convert This Edge Into Money?

Yes, technically when n is greater then 30 you "can" have significant data provided your data is normally distributed, independent and little correlation. That is NOT the case here. Here is some advice, keep trading it. No one is going to back you. And yes, keep the day job, the paycheck...

What's The Best Way To Convert This Edge Into Money?

Fifty three trades? LOL. Come back here after you have made 5k to 10k trades. No one is going to steal anything because there is no edge. The fact that variance is working in your favor now is not an edge. Keep the day job. BTW, I'm not trying to be rude, just to the point. I have...
