    My Trading Holy Grail

So I guess we have to say Goodbye. If you've found your Holy Grail and you're trading it successfully and you won't say how it works then I suppose you won't be hanging around here much longer. Best wishes for the future.

Need to eliminate the big losses

Well done Steve, discipline will save you. I broadly agree with your points but would lie awake at night with No.3. Let's suppose you follow a single objective entry rule within your strategy, and this has a 70% success rate. If you get emotional or bend the rules that will of course alter the...

Need to eliminate the big losses

An honest and modest account, well done to you for opening up on these issues. Do not give up. Your trading problems appear to come from you rather than unanticipated market events which catch everyone out. So eliminate your personal input. Avoid intra-day trading where psycho-emotional inputs...

Amazon drops plans to add headquarters in New York City

I don't doubt it. But if you're going to issue a tax break to a multi-national (paid for by the community), why not issue it where it will do some good for the community?

Amazon drops plans to add headquarters in New York City

I don't think driving business away from the parish is ever a good idea. But let's face it, the location of major business developments in the US has been as much a means of squeezing tax breaks out of local authorities for companies that didn't need help, so they would set up in places where...

The Stock Market Works by Day, but It Loves the Night

The article does not at all prove that daytrading doesn't work - or any other conventional sort of trading. The logic that proving one methodology works automatically proves another doesn't is just faulty, like concluding that as airplanes can fly, that therefore means ships cannot float.

Setting "Proper" stops in trend strategy?

BUT - I would still exit the position for a partial loss if the TA deteriorated badly even if price wasn't hitting my stop. Its never too early to close a losing trade. Just don't take your eye off the trend.

Setting "Proper" stops in trend strategy?

To comply strictly with the use of volatility to give you your stop-loss, the stop should be adjusted as ATR rises or falls.

Could this simple formula be profitable?

The 1:3 r:r almost certainly means you will never accumulate enough winners to outweigh the losers. If the ratio was 1:1, you would break even (ignoring trading costs): the market would need to have equivalent amounts of buying/selling ("energy" input if you like) to move +1R or -1R so you...

Setting "Proper" stops in trend strategy?

Yes. You think 2ATR20 is narrow? I have used 5ATR20 and may soon go back to it. Tired of getting shaken out of good trends by silly volatility.

    Australia Mortgage Defaults Storm

Australian guy I met last year said he had built his own house back in Oz but had come over here to work after the downturn in iron ore mining. Said he couldn't meet the repayments on the house, nobody was interested in renting it as there was no work, so he was just going to stay out of the...

Does anyone know why YM (Dow) futures rose 120 points at 4PM.

Just don't depend on the mainstream media. I don't know what caused this particular move but the mainstream media are very happy to publish on consecutive days - Monday - "Stocks rise as oil sinks to new low" Tuesday - "Stocks fall as oil sinks to new low"

Is it time to throw in the towel?

Strategies/patterns/set-ups is just tinkering. You're not losing money because you selected a weak pattern from a strategy book. You've got to make some radical choices which might be binary and uncomfortable: Should you trade intra-day or long-term? Should you trade break-outs or follow trends...
