May I ask what sort of training you have received aside from learning from other traders around you? Also, can you give me more info on your firm, Heartland? Are they hiring at the moment?
Thanks
Hi Sambatrade,
Thanks for the info. Can you tell me where you are currently trading? I assume you had a brief stint with Lynx (reason being, you seem to know a lot about the internals about the firm). Is Lynx a branch of Assent?
I assume you know several traders personally...who trade...
I believe the three firms I mentioned don't have this problem. I've talked to actual traders at these firms, and yes, they all get paid on a regular basis. I'm sure if a firm never paid their traders they would not be in business for very long. Which firm do you know of that doesn't pay its...
The point of this thread was to ask for advice about proprietary the various firms. Not whether or not I should trade. Therefore, I may seem a bit defensive in my posts regarding the ones that tell me not to trade and pursue something else.
Most of you sound like very bitter people who are...
I'm not in the business to build my resume. I'm in it to make money and succeed. Simple as that. If I worried about that, I've already lost.
If someone succeeds in trading, does it really matter which firm he made it at? I don't understand why you guys think firm name value is of utmost...
Unfortunately, you haven't been reading very closely to what I've been writing.
Trading vs Corporate world the same? I'm naive? Are you a trader? Working in independent/prop trading is excercising your entrepeneurial ambitions of placing your fate of success or failure on yourself...
Exactly. There are absolutely no guarantees in the corporate world. And sadly, it does have everything to do with connections and who you know. Not necessarily how well you perform.
The road is not as easy as many of you may think. Sure, the first two years may be fun, and I may be paid...
I know I must come across as naive, but I do believe I have an idea of what I'm getting into. The fact that there are no barriers to entry means squat to me. I think the real level of intelligence comes from what you do with your education/degree, not from the piece of paper it's printed on...
I believe it's quite negligible. Almost nil. The device driver for your video card, however, would take up a bit more. But all in all, we're not talking about any considerable amount.
Yes, most major houses. However, I believe the last round of recruiting will be over by the end of next month. For the amount in salary they pay, it's pretty negligible to their bottom line.
What is wrong with Assent if I may ask?
No joke, Worldco has a separate package deal for recruits out of top schools and high GPA's. I didn't even know about this until they mentioned it during my interview.
I called FNY and was told they were not currently hiring. Can someone tell me...
It seems as though the discussion has gone a bit off-topic.
Anyway, I stopped by both Assent and Worldco offices today.
Here is the breakdown:
Assent: Lovely office in midtown Manhattan. All the managers look fairly young and are super nice. Other than the managers, it seems as...
I don't seem to follow you. Yes, I didn't follow the path of going corporate. It's my choice. Please respect my decision rather than insult it. Thank you.
Call me lazy, but I don't want to work 90 hr weeks, get paid peanuts, and then let go after my 2 year tour of duty in favor of the next batch of college "fresh meat". Trust me, I'm smack in the middle of a social crowd that knows the ins and outs of the industry. It doesn't really work the...
