The two times the IDF had a clear war against a proper army on a battlefield they won decisively against heavy odds and multiple opponents, one of which was a surprise attack on Yom Kippur. Read some accounts of their soldiers storming the Golan Heights, for example - they won despite attacking entrenched positions in strong defensive terrain, and despite being outnumbered. That's pretty ballsy and impressive soldiering.

Granted, some of their more recent policies and actions suck, but that's due more to the people on top rather than the grunts on the ground, and it's taking place against enemies that aren't afraid to hide amongst civilians. Not really comparable to a conventional battleground.

There are some valid criticisms of the IDF but cowardice is not really one of them.
