Quote from Karma Yogi:
Mark Douglas identified 4 basic fears in trading. I'm not sure of his exact labels or descriptions but here is my description:
1. Fear of being wrong. Not pulling the trigger when seeing an opportunity.
2. Fear of loss. Not willing to accept a loss on a position.
3. Fear of leaving profits on the table. And thereby overstaying welcome in a position despite a reversal of trend.
4. Fear of missing out on the action. Putting on a position despite lack of clear opportunity.
For most discretionary traders that haven't acheived consistancy, these fears are always there conditioning their responses to market action. I think most traders fail because they never develop a comfort level in thier trading - these fears are always there. Remember faith is the opposite of fear. Once a trader develops enuf faith (or confidence) in his trading then the consistancy comes naturally.
They look like they are so easy to overcome. Its sad.
I think one could add a few more fears though, and what is easy to some may not be to others.
As for meditation, It seems to be about occupying ones attention. The best way to this is to use ones attention to monitor the activity of the brain without engaging the brain. This allows for thoughts to come, be noted and then to past, which in turns allows for more thoughts to be exposed in lesser depth.
Soon deep inner sub conscience thoughts begin to arise.
One learns by paying attention to the brain that the brain and the attention are separate. We can't control the brain, we can only control the attention. So what is the brain if it is running on its own?
More importantly thoughts are not initiated by us, so we are not thoughts. We are only our attention. Everything else is just noise. getting out of the noise through the use of attention allows a key separation to occur.
Emotions are not in us but in our brain, so they become removed. People are simply things to keep our brain entertained, people are kept in our lives for emotional needs. We have now disconnected from emotions so there is no need for people. hence the meditation schools in the mountain.
It is the turning point for most, to let go and admit that their loved ones are simply a distraction for their attention. One must let go, most cant out of fear. as they know they will loose the ability to miss people. and will have no motivationneed to be around people
Those who let go have no bounds. Their brain is an organ it is not them. There attention learns how to manipulate the brain.
Miss lust? well dial it up. want love or happiness command it. Other people are not needed. Nothing is needed. Only food. Love is not something that others give you, it is something you yourself allow your self to experience. It has little to do with another party.
The amazing part here is that our brains can be changed in this way. Imagine having "no" thoughts leads to more happiness.
So why all the buzzing in our heads? To keep us occupied ? to keep us dependant on one another? To scare us from "danger"?
The brain is a program dipped in a solution of hormones that effects conductivity of electrical pulses. Attention is the disk operating system. Since windows came out DOS has been hidden.
Situations allow us to modify these hormones to bring on happiness. But if we can modify the solutions we dont really need the "situation".
It is hard to understand or appreciate this without looking in to Quantum Physics.
The only reason we are alive is out of fear of being dead. But it just may be that life is a chore of the dead.
