Youtuber Spencer Cornelia Joins The Dark Side

Youtube is super annoying to learn anything from.

I have a Ph. D. in Rocket surgery, accounting, psychiatry and history all thanks to YT. Just because you don't know how to search for or fast forward a video, that is not YT's problem. Not to mention YT is not responsible for the content, so if you can't find or don't like something, blaming it on YT is just stupid.

Several YT channels are way better than what you can see on TV. For example The History Guy, But it's Jazz, etc.

Anyhow, keeping it on topic, the best crypto related channel is probably CoffeeZilla.

Youtube is super annoying to learn anything from. Want to find out how to do the brakes on a 2010 Ford XYZ?
1) The search will show you tons of crap that's not what you want but is "promoted" it takes 5X longer than it should to find something.
2) Even if you find the video, it's take a 1/2 hour to pull out the meaningful facts for a task that could be conveyed in about one page of text and a few figures.
3) Often, the video to want find will exist on youtube, but will be impossible to find from their search because they're trying to hard to steer you towards other things. Then the 5X becomes infinity, unless you go back to a search engine again, dealing with their obnoxious algorithms instead.

Youtube and wikipedia didn't make that happen. They came around after the fact and de-empasized all the search hits to the older, much better content out there.
There use to be a thriving network of forums, newsgroups and small and or personal websites with tons of great information.

It used to be, if you ran a search for how to do that brake job, you'd have a hit on a manufacturer-specific car forum right at the top. Now you have these giant garbage tech companies cross promoting each other. You'll get some marginally useful youtube hits, and some absolute garbage hits on sites like fixya.com, quora.com, etc.

Then you have the issue that they're super ridiculously slanted in their viewpoint towards those of the globalist technocrats that run them, and have no respect for basic tenets of American culture like freedom of speech, the right to face your accuser, the right to a trial, no ex post facto laws, etc.

What do you expect him to say, "Buy our phones at a premium price even though they're made with the same sweatshop quality labor as our cheaper competitors."
I've seen this argument a lot. Obviously, if you have someone what every step of the process, making sure that all the materials are proper, etc, you can produce something decent, usually. But would I buy Chinese rock climbing equipment? Hell no.

Dancing is not what I would call "US culture". The US does have some unique and special culture, but the superficial narcissism of the "look at me" crowd is not it.
If you want to learn something uniquely American, read "William Diamond's Drum"

one of the best forum posts I've read in a long, long time. I've encountered this exact issue with my 535i and trying to scour out various topics & processes related to fixes, upgrades etc. it is fucking MADDENING to see the way the algos work now. I'm sure it has been this way awhile but the depth to how unbelievably annoying it is wasn't clear to me until recently.

Woah, you seem to have quite a bit of difficulty searching. I've found YouTube to be a treasure trove of useful information. In the past, it has helped me to fix my Lexus SUV headlight and installed video cam in my BMW SUV. For programmers, I must say googling might be 50% help solving their problems. You seem to want everything in a nice and tidy package of perfect information. It's a FREE resource that you are searching/googling from the comfort of your home. Should try to spend a little more time to figure out how to more effectively search.

Damn, conspiracy theories. Dude, I'm just talking about simple or not so simple every day issues that come up and get you stuck. Googling/YouTubing that help you alleviate those problems. Researching a new laptop, search YouTube for laptop reviews. Incredibly useful to see the thing live and being used. So what if they stick a couple of ads in there, fast forward. This idea that "technocrats" are trying to control? LOL. Yeah ask Zuck how it's going with the metaverse. I'm sure he'll love to control you with that thing.

You don't seem to get my point. The rapid ascent of information is producing a higher grade of competitiveness. Take South Korea. Dominates the mid-level automobiles. Or cosmetics. They are world leaders in beauty. How about cinema? Winning Oscars with hits like Parasite. What did the director say in his acceptance speech? He thanked Scorsese for his influence. Chinese rock climbing equipment? I would think if they focus on that category, they would be able to produce some amazing equipment. The level of competition is raising. It's good thing.

Glib responses like the tiktok comment just shows your ignorance. Trying to compare tiktok with YouTube. There is a reason why most broadcast/cable shows now have a presence on YouTube. I can get my quick take on important news items by narrowing on the YouTube CNBC news bit about a specific news item rather having to stick around for the hour long show. Much more efficient. Plus I can bypass the advertisement and speed up (1.5x) the replay.
Really give YouTube a try. You will be amazed at how good the quality can be. YouTube revenue is paying content creators handsomely for quality content which is why the competition to make content gets stronger every day.
Creators are paid to get click. Quantity over quality. Gigo.

But yes I do use Youtube most everyday "separating the wheat from the chaff".

his points are valid, both of yours are. I glossed over the conspiracy stuff and obviously don't cosign that portion lol.

I think the gist was, there's a LOT more fluff to sift through than there used to be. but the tradeoff as you said is a ton more resources to pull from. the ad steering while searching is annoying as shit. the workaround is knowing how to site search, but often in a new venture it can be challenging to find those sites at first.

X5, X7, whatcha got? I love my F10. it's my 5th Bimmer.

Yeah some of the creators do go overboard with their bias but videos like OP help to give an opposing viewpoint. But that's why I love the 2x speed-up or just simply click to a later segment. If you have half a mind, you quickly separate crap from the good stuff. That's what subscribing is for.

Yeah ads are an annoyance but the creators are fighting for your views. So if their ads get too offensive, you can complain. If enough people complain, they will do something about it. Try doing that with CNBC or another network channel.

How long does it take to ignore dumb ads? Seconds? My bookmark is full of links that I've found over the years to be extremely useful. Just like the upvotes in Reddit, people will support the sites that are quality. Up votes in YouTube, Reddit, Slickdeals, Amazon, etc are a fantastic form of separating the wheat from the chaff. Notwithstanding the scammers trying to manipulate the system but some of the owners of these sites are doing good stuff to fix the problem.

I had a 2011 BMW X5 that I bought to experience BMW quality. Kept it for 7 years. I liked it but I'm not really a car guy. Every year, there was another thousand dollar fix that had to be done. I started to google/YouTube things so I could at least fix the basic/intermediate stuff. Must have saved at least a few thousands.

Exactly my thoughts when I hear an unknown name gives opinion on something:

1. Who the fuck are they?
2. Why should I give a shit what they say?

And the answer is always:

1. Nobody.
2. No reason.
Same for the trash you post on here. At least some of them come across as much more intelligent and well-thought-through than a failed trader curmudgeon,

was it a diesel? just curious. I almost got one of those but decided on the F10. I imagine you had transfer case repairs at the very minimum lol. regardless, I drive mine into the ground. I've put collectively over 700k miles on my previous 4. my '11 328i was just retired at 179k. stock almost everything minus cooling system brakes and oil. didn't want to sink more into it and I drove the hell out of the thing. an absolute warrior of a car lol.

I hear your points, all completely valid. the trade offs are worth it like I said. whenever the kids tell me they're bored I just remind them we have the collective human mind available online for their perusal at any time.

No I'm in the NYC area so it's gas. I remember I had a shaking issue that turned out to be a vibrating sensor that needed to be replaced. I had no idea cars required stuff like that. Maybe it's just performance cars. Let me guess you must be able to do your own repairs. If I was car enthusiast, I would be much more into the Bimmers and doing repairs.

Exactly. This collective mind is only going to go bigger and more easier to use. Have you seen ChatGPT, scary stuff but in a good way. For anyone who is critical of online information, let's consider if it was completely taken away. I think there would be a near universal outcry. Lol, going back to Encyclopedia Britannica is not an option.
