YouTube bans Alex Jones

They banned him because they think he is extreme right. And he is.

They terminated his account for hate speech and violent content. That is facebooks official statement. Not for being extreme right.

I don't think they banned Jones because he's on the right. They probably banned him because of his conspiracy "theories" and call for violence. It doesn't have to be tit for tat (right vs left). It can be truth vs lies. It just so happens that there are many high profile alt-righters who call for violence and spew outright lies to support their point. When the social media networks ban Russian trolls (the real ones) they are attacking all of them - not just the right leaning ones, but it just happens that most are right leaning.

What I find scary is that reasonable people equate Alex Jones as a right leaning person and not just a fringe lunatic who damages our actual discourse. If the case is that all right wing people view him as on "their side," then maybe (to take a suggestion from a right wing politician who was anti-Muslim) the right should do more to police their own.

The problem is that we now have 3 companies essentially "Controlling" free speech. Facebook, youtube, twitter, they get to decide whats offensive and whats not, wait till it happens on your end. Its a dangerous precedent, far more dangerous than anything Trump can ever say.

Actually the press is more free than it has ever been. Those 3 platforms are only 3 out of many: the most free being the actual world wide web. Foxnews.com can put Alex Jones on their platform.

It is scary how the power of some companies can be abused. But this example is not an example of that abuse in my opinion. ISIS propaganda should be controlled. Alex Jones should be controlled.

Actual harm was caused to several Sandy Hook families, one forced to move as many as six times in actual fear of harm due to Jones' relentless drumbeat to his crazies. We can assume others. I'd literally kill him quite likely if I were one of those dads and had no other kids. Many would feel the same.

Provable actual harm is unacceptable, in the end Jones is one guy running a business, celebrity does not give him special status.

I don't think so, based on the news feed. Plus, Youtube would have said so in order to give the appearance of a balanced view. But I suppose it is possible.
