It was NEVER expected to keep people from getting sick entirely if they ran into a unvaccinated/no immunity sick person. The primary disease spreaders.
It was only expected to reduce illness, transmitted cases/deaths and allow herd immunity to occur through community infection and vaccine immunity, if most got behind it.
Immunity does not mean no illness. The virus is always going to have a go every single time it encounters compatible meaty cells.
