Called the transportation services company I am contracted to today for clarity on their policy on Covid mandates. The person I talked eventually admitted that she received many calls of concerned drivers over vaccine mandates. When pressed further for policy clarity, she mentioned an email by management that policy will be based on what their customers do. The vast majority of the company’s business is from fortune 500 companies, effectively confirming my belief that vaccine mandates will also be imposed upon so called independent contractors.
Capacity is extremely tight in trucking right now, in spite of substantial increases in capacity in the last six months. Our electronic load board has been hitting consecutive, all time records with available loads in recent weeks. This leads me to suspect that no Vaccine mandates will be implemented during the holiday shopping season so as to not to rock the boat and risk losing capacity at a “Critical” time.
Self driving commercial vehicles will start in earnest soon, eventually becoming the majority of trucking freight moved in the US.
So my decision to not get vaccinated is easy and clear: No way in hell am I going to get vaccinated and commit to future vaccinations for a pathogen of only moderate concern.
