Major medical groups call for employers to mandate Covid-19 vaccines for health care workers

As the number of Covid-19 cases surges in the United States, more than 50 health care groups -- including the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Public Health Association -- issued a joint statement calling for all health care and long-term care employers to mandate employees be vaccinated against Covid-19.

"Our health care organizations and societies advocate that all health care and long-term care employers require their workers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. This is the logical fulfillment of the ethical commitment of all health care workers to put patients as well as residents of long-term care facilities first and take all steps necessary to ensure their health and well-being," they wrote in the joint statement issued Monday.

"Because of highly contagious variants, including the Delta variant, and significant numbers of unvaccinated people, COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths are once again rising throughout the United States. Vaccination is the primary way to put the pandemic behind us and avoid the return of stringent public health measures," the statement added.

Should be interesting to see what employers will do. Right now, if you listen to earnings calls at all (you don't) CEOs and their teams are complaining that they can't get people to work. Mandate a vaccination and see how hard it gets!

The retail and restaurant sector where employers can't find workers are very different than most of corporate America where people are still working from home for the most part. Seeing that over 50% of office workers support a vaccine mandate before being forced back into the office 5 days per week -- companies are likely to see a lot of push-back about allowing unvaccinated workers into the office. Especially seeing that 14% of office workers stated they would quit their job rather than working in an unvaccinated office.

We will see how things pan out over the upcoming year. It is interesting to note that multiple companies in the U.S. have stopped their plans to demand people be back in the fall due to the Delta variant and are now planning to have employees back in the office in the spring. So much for "re-opening America" -- of course we can only blame this problem on the unvaccinated adults. I guess they don't desire to return to pre-COVID America.

The earnings calls I heard had nothing to do with the retail and restaurants. And please provide support for your 50% of office workers support a mandate on vaccines and 14% of office workers would quit their job rather than work in an unvaccinated office (though the latter one is believable, because there are certainly 14% of the population that has lost its mind like you). Of course when given the choice to quit, they probably wouldn't. Easy to say you will.
