Nearly half of employers say they're at least considering the idea of requiring proof of vaccination as a condition for employees return to in-person work, according to a survey from Willis Towers Watson.

Why it matters: The gradual upticks in mass vaccinations has allowed America's workforce to begin to picture reopened office buildings.

The big picture: Employers have the legal right to require that their workers get COVID-19 vaccines, with accommodations for religious objections and employees with disabilities.

By the numbers: 34% of employers said they are planning or considering mandating vaccines as a condition of employment, according to the WTW report, which surveyed 494 businesses employing 6.4 million people.
  • Still, employers expect nearly two in five employees will still be working remotely at the end of 2021, compared with 57% who work remotely now, varying by industry.
Yes, but: Vaccine mandates do risk backlash, Ross Silverman, a professor at Indiana University, told Pew Charitable Trusts, and it could be better for companies to encourage vaccination and make it easily available for those who want it if possible, he said.
  • “That’s really where I think most of the conversations should be leaning, is how can you make workplaces safe as a system,” he said, “rather than trying to create a requirement for vaccination.”

You are aware of the large number of employers who already cut unvaccinated employees loose — everyone from airlines like United to healthcare providers to local governments. Nothing to do with the federal mandate. And the trend is continuing and accelerating. Over 2/3 of business executives strongly support vaccine mandates. Over 60% of small businesses support vaccine mandates. Over 30% of employees will refuse to return to the office unless their employer mandates vaccines. No matter what happens with the federal mandate — employers will be driving mandates for their workforces.

I just watched on the news an interview with public health agency people from Michigan and doctors/nurses in Michigan...

They seem like they are in shock by their Covid numbers. Some stated they've been having panic attacks because it's that scary when they arrive to work...some say the anxiety is so bad...its hard to get out of their cars.

What caught my eye and the reason why I'm putting this message post in this thread...most of the hospitals in Michigan...most of their employees are fully vaccinated without any mandates.

Yet, they're very understaffed because doctors/nurses and other medical personnel are just burnt out, taking higher-paying jobs in other states or retiring early because they just can not take the Covid craziness of the Pandemic

The above numbers are not surprising for a state not doing well with getting people to get vaccinated. The interview caught my attention because many patients while lying in bed, on a ventilator and struggling to breathe as if they're trying to catch their last breath...
  • They were not vaccinated and had recovered from a prior Covid illness. This reinfection with Covid was the worst for them. Some of them still say they will not get vaccinated if they survive this 2nd Covid infection.

What part of the courts rejected it again do you not understand?

Countless employers require drug tests. that does not mean it is legal for the President to issue an executive order demanding drug tests.

In fact, there have been countless attempts to tie welfare benefits to drug tests but they have failed. In light of that, countless employers require drug tests.

Your arguments are weak.

You do realize that any recent stays or court decisions by judges on federal vaccine mandates are temporary. All of these cases will be routed to the federal 6th Circuit Court — which has been selected as the Circuit Court to hear all of these federal mandate cases. Most likely after this these cases will be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. The U.S. Supreme Court has a long history of supporting vaccine mandates since 1905. Did you happen notice that the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear a case today trying to end the TSA mask mandate — leaving the TSA mandate in place.
