Your kid's SAT score depends on your income and where you live

It's called autocorrect

We may have good writers, but have shitty readers. Some private company offers an extra data set for their customers and it's somehow scraping for votes

ok lol... yeah it may not be directly connected to scraping, but ultimately it IS connected.... even if this was done per the demands of the universities if that's what you mean... but why do the universities want to do this? this goes back to my earlier post - getting votes with feel-good narratives... like diversity.

The data disagrees with you. So much so it seriously cast doubt on your alleged "rags to riches" story you are setting up to tell.

Even among the upper cohorts of the middle class mobility is very limited. Your relative success is probably woefully average when taken at the population level. You could argue some of the population statistics are a result of financial literacy but you have to also understand the systems put in place to keep people more broke than they should. To name a few: credit cards, bank loans, social media influencer selling, movies, television, etc. Before you claim "well those people are just stupid" again, the data disagrees. Careless spending is actually highest among the upper quartile of IQ contrary to popular belief. Even if you do make it and are the 99th percentile of your cohort you will, on average, fail to exceed a small multiple of the highest earner in your nuclear family. This is not surprising at all. People who come from wealth get more assistance in generating their own wealth by leveraging their parents. However, people who are given financial assistance (rather than life assistance) tend to do more poorly. This subject is very interesting because it implies that not only generational wealth is the only real wealth, but also the probability of escaping poverty or the middle class without assistance from your family early in life is vanishingly small.

The cases where a person who was broke on the street suddenly making enough money to retire inside of one generation is nearly unheard of. You should listen to The Millionaire Next Door. They expound on the issue of class mobility and how it's not as simple as "I did it, so can you". To make a major class change within one generation is an accomplishment less than 0.5% of Americans can do. Wealth has, and always will be, made generationally. Unfortunately for the progenators of familial wealth, they very rarely get to live long enough to enjoy any of it.

On topic: The SATs biasing their scores based on race and class has always been an unspoken but recognized subject for at least as long as I had been in the University circuit. The only surprising thing here is they are admitting it.

I always ask those who think the USA is the land of opportunity to come back as a fatherless black kid in the ghetto. So many odds are stacked against you, but the number one thing that works in the favor of the child is loving parents... And you generally end up with just one in the above situation who is too busy trying to survive. So you basically have half a parent. Edit: famous rappers, Biggie, 2pac, Diddy - they were all(?) fatherless but had mothers who genuinely cared for them. Same as Obama.

I have some idea about how hard it is. I have two kids who I raise mostly without their mother (she has mental issues - must have to marry me lol). Fortunately, neither of them are black kids in the ghetto.

The fact that my children are top of the class, athletic, socially adept is just brutal hard fucking work and I can promise you that if it were most other people, they'd be below average schmucks. And if they were in the earlier mentioned situation, forget about it.

To improve social mobility, society MUST work on the nuclear family. Fuck this LGBTBBQBLT bullshit.

My daughter told me the other day: "We have a school of 400 people, maybe 1 LGBT person and we had an entire pride week thing. like... why?"

Your daughter unknowingly answered her own question. In a school with 400 people, there is no way that there is only one LGBT person. The others aren't proud enough to reveal themselves and I guess that's why the organizers want a parade.

SAT. Scholastic Aptitude Test. It is all bollocks! Guys, feel refreshed that we have our own genres to fall back upon, and can use them to edumecate the youngins of the day.

Could be. But it seems excessive. At her school (which is quite frankly elitist), there is no Philipino parade - I think there is only one there. The "I want you to know where I stick my penis" propaganda is unnecessary and isn't conducive to a healthy society. Gay people can be gay, but exposing children to that is, in my opinion, a form of sexual abuse.

You're probably right, yet there is probably no week to celebrate boys who happily dive nose first in well cleaned and trimmed pussies. Nothing wrong with being gay, and one can largely live fine with it, yet I would guess transexuals are in a mess, at the very least an hormonal mess. I need to read recent research to keep up with the times, but when I checked as young adult hanging out more in the night scene, which had a heavy share of gay, suicide rates for transexuals were many times the rates of other sexual identities. You can read about most guys who have been injecting testosterone, to basically be more masculine, and the estrogen (female hormones) which rise concurrently make them an emotional mess. Accepting Transexual is one thing, making it trendy is another. And accepting Male to Female transgender into female competitive sports is a bad thing for female athletes imo, seeing some people claim they are the same because that's the correct thing to say politically from their side of the pool is shameful imo.

Interesting thread btw, US has been lagging other western countries for a while now in terms of social mobility, although it is usually better to be born from well off parents who still live together no matter the country afaik (i haven't read anything about how kids from gay couples do btw, and fwiw suspect they would do just fine as long as they live in a society where it is accepted).

Well, you unknowingly showcased the insanity of the modern day SJW. Did the school have a "heterosexual pride day"? Why should any school be celebrating any sexual preferences regardless of what they are? Keep that crap out of the school.

i also don't agree with the pride week, but schools are supposed to try and instill in students values the society at large (or powers that be) find desirable. It is weird in the US as the values mentioned here don't seem to come from the White House, but it does make sense in Western schools that the humanities/social science classes discuss homosexuality, with a bias towards it being perfectly acceptable.
