Yes however redundant in casual conversation? Caliber is universally used for either measurement system and a 5.56 inch bullet would do more than graze an ear.

If an AR-15 was constructed to take 5.56 inch rounds, using simplified calculations, it would be around 76 feet long? Scaling factor of 25.4 on a three foot gun.
