While it is true that a few secular governments (Hitler was NOT an atheist) have been totalitarian, ALL theistic governments are totalitarian. ALL free, open societies have been secular. Every one. There are no exceptions that I know of. The more religious a society is, the more tyrannical it is without exception. There are no modern bloody dictatorships that are as oppressive as any European government in the 11th century when religion and the government were one thing.
