Going out looking for trouble is not law-abiding. If any of us can accomplish this for ourselves alone the world will be measurably better off for it.
Defending your life and property using firearms when they come to loot and burn your store is the very definition of law-abiding.
Buying guns and going out looking, hoping to shoot some "chimps" or "apes", is the very definition of "good reason to shoot yourself".
