Not a surprise, a lot of areas are in areas where the chances of a major disaster happening is huge. In Los Angeles, California this morning, I felt a sharp jolt, around 4am while, in bed. Of course, California is full of earthquake faults crisscrossing all over with the San Andreas fault being one of the largest. In Asia, they have their own, ring of fire where undersea earthquakes can suddenly, erupt. Let us not forget an undersea earthquake hit Asia and caused massive number of deaths in multiple countries with a tsunami in 2004. The massive fires in California, Seattle and Oregon though, were caused by lack of proper forest management by extreme liberal Democrats running those states. They did not clear dried bushes and trees? Add to that reports of Antifa thugs, deliberately, setting things on fire including, starting massive fires?

I'm not sure it was entirely one thing versus another thing.
The climate on the west coast is hotter and dryer than it has been for decades. That *combined* with lack of forest management, logging and fire roads has made things pretty bad. A lot of the talk about forest management really should be called "chaparral management" because large parts of California and Oregon have mostly dry underbrush like creosote that burns explosively when dried out. I believe that its a combination of factors including the sheer stupidity of people (gender reveal fireworks in the dry season).
I'm not a global warming cultist but recognize that the climate varies and is like the 1950s right now on the West Coast. Hot, dry and virtually unmanaged.
My point just being, if you are looking for a massive disaster arising from natural causes, there are plenty of opportunities for that. Earthquake faults will slip at some point and probably, cause a massive earthquake. The same goes for underwater volcanoes that can erupt suddenly and you have a massive tsunami like in 2004? Nobody has control over that. The massive fires in California, Seattle and Oregon is the result of human stupidity though. That could have been totally, avoided and the huge fires probably, would have been smaller fires that could have been contained.
