Well, just because (for the first time in history) the west is facing negative life-expectancy rates, and we're losing more of our 'free speech' by the day, does not mean we are regressing.

Partly it just reflects the natural cyclic evolution of societies; eras come and go and the past is a different country. Partly it’s because any attempt to do anything of importance suffocates under infinite layers of bullshit, bureaucracy, regulations, lawsuits, diversity commissars, etc. Partly it’s because the best and brightest are all working for tech monopolies or some oligopolistic corporate gravy train rather than solving real problems.
