Hamas appointed Yahya Sinwar, Israel’s top target and the mastermind behind the militant group’s Oct. 7 assault, as its political leader.

The decision comes after former political leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in a strike on Iran’s capital. Hamas, which is designated a terrorist organization by the US and the European Union, and Iran have blamed Israel for the killing. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied taking part in the attack.

There are two competing post-war plans for Gaza being put forward. The first is from the UAE which is trying to up its presence as a leader in the Arab world. The UAE wants to put a UAE-led Arab peace-keeping force in Gaza and provide administration as well as start the rebuilding.

An alternative 101 page plan is being put forward from the Palestinian Authority (PA). Their plan calls for the PA to provide security and administration in Gaza. The risk with this plan is that the PA would probably immediately hunt down every remaining Hamas member (and there still will be many who are well-armed) potentially leading to a civil war within Gaza as the PA attempts to administer it.

Austin, Gallant: Attack on US Base in Iraq a 'Dangerous Escalation'

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant agreed in a phone call on Monday that an attack by Iranian proxies on American troops at an Iraqi airbase marked a "dangerous escalation."

Austin also reiterated the "unwavering U.S. commitment to Israel's security in the face of threats from Iran, Lebanese Hizballah, and other Iran-aligned militia groups," according to the Pentagon.

At least five U.S. personnel were wounded, one seriously, when two Katyusha rockets were fired on Monday at the Al-Asad Airbase in western Iraq, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing U.S. officials. An Iraqi official said that the rockets fell inside the base. A picture taken shortly after the nighttime attack appeared to show smoke rising from the facility.

Top Israeli Official: “Morally Justified” to Starve 2 Million to Death in Gaza

A top Israeli official suggested on Monday that he believes it is “morally justified” for Israel to wipe out Gaza’s population through famine and starvation, in chilling statements that pro-Palestine advocates say openly indicate genocidal intent.

Speaking at a conference hosted by the far right Israel Hayom newspaper, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich complained about having to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, saying that international norms are stopping Israel from taking what he claims is the “moral” path of starving 2 million Palestinians to death.

“We are bringing in aid because there is no choice,” Smotrich said, Israeli outlets reported. “We can’t, in the current global reality, manage a war. Nobody will let us cause 2 million civilians to die of hunger even though it might be justified and moral until our hostages are returned.”
