As i mentioned previously -- a two step solution is required for progress towards peace and two state solution. The first step is the complete elimination of Hamas as a military and governing entity in Gaza. The second step is negotiations in good faith towards a two state solution that will lead to peace. The Netanyahu government has no plans to negotiate towards a two state solution -- in fact they pretty much have announced that they don't see this in the future. While also mentioning that Netanyahu and his cohorts supported Hamas previously only because it would undermine any possibility of a two state solution being implemented.

The U.S. is the only country with any type of reasonable leverage with Israel which could urge Natanyahu to leave office when the war in Gaza is finished and potentially support a more moderate government being put in place in Israel which would focus on implementing a two state solution.

Of course, Netayahu could follow through on the previous talking points of his government and simply push all the Palestinians out of the West Bank and Gaza. This would create a huge humanitarian catastrophe in neighboring countries and ensure that decades of future terrorism face Israel and others around the world.

Speaking after the US vetoed the resolution, Riyad Mansour called the move “beyond regrettable”.

“It is disastrous,” he said. “The Security Council was again prevented from rising to this moment to uphold its clear responsibilities in the face of this grave crisis threatening human lives and threatening regional and international peace and security.

“Instead of allowing this council to uphold its mandate by finally making a clear call after two months of massacres that the atrocities must end, the war criminals are given more time to perpetuate them,” Mansour said.

“How can this be justified?”

Israeli envoy to UN thanks Biden for ‘standing firmly’ by Israel

Gilad Erdan slammed the UN Security Council resolution that the US vetoed as “distorted”.

The Israeli ambassador to the UN added that a ceasefire would only be possible when all of the captives held in Gaza are released and when Hamas is destroyed.

The Israeli army has dropped 18,000 tons of bombs on the Gaza Strip since Oct.7, or about 1.5 times the explosive force of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan in World War II, according to officials in the besieged enclave.

Speaking to the press, Salama Marouf, head of the government's media office, said Israeli forces have also destroyed 85 government buildings in Gaza, adding: "In Gaza, Israel has demolished 47 mosques and inflicted significant harm to three churches. The attacks have resulted in over 200,000 damaged buildings, with 32,500 of them rendered uninhabitable, 203 schools have sustained major damage, and 45 schools are now completely non-operational. Due to the intensity of the attacks, statistics are not yet complete.".....
