XP... Slowww Boot... Help, please

I downloaded a virus update from Symantec and now my machine takes 5 full minutes to boot. Starts out normally enough, but very slow about loading the items which appear in the system tray.... they do eventually load.

I did the same downloads for my Win2000 machine, and it's OK.

Any ideas??

Thanks, but no. A virus scan takes >1 hr.

or maybe it short scan on boot up
also you can do this-click on start->run->type-msconfig-> go to startup and uncheck everything that you dont need.

Don't forget that XP has the ability to go back in time. One time I found that I could not connect high speed and I simply went back two days and all was well.

Symantec said they think the update file was corrupted and they're working on a fix.

Strong suggestion, Do not have Norton Antivirus on your trading machine. I had the same plus many more conflicts (especially if running multiple monitors) Not to mention it uses about 1/3 of your resources. If you need an antivirus then go with the much less demanding Mcafee which will work just as fine. Your problem and many others which come from Norton updates is actually very common. Good luck
