Big difference from "the Civil War is being removed from State K-12 curriculum" GWB
This is has been widely discussed before in threads about Common Core Standards and AP History changes. You can go review the previous threads for lots of links and details.
Let me use an obvious example; in N.C. the 8th grade social studies curriculum is about "North Carolina History". You would think that the state curriculum regarding North Carolina would include some reference to the Civil War. After all it was a pretty big event that impacted our state.
Here is the 8th grade North Carolina history curriculum - https://files.nc.gov/dpi/documents/curriculum/socialstudies/scos/8.pdf The Civil War is not mentioned once.
As noted in other threads, the new Common Core Standards for history are not focused on remembering names, dates, etc. of history - these items are deemed irrelevant and are not tested against. Common Core Standards for history are focused on studying social trends and other "soft" objectives.
Gettysburg is in PA and Antietem is in VA, Bull Run is in Manassas, VA. Schools from both States do field trips there depending on the school. Field trips are not State wide decisions. I know some NJ schools can get to Gettysburg.
NC is real far from those and banning field trips is not the same as studying subject in school.
AP History is an elective class, not a required class so not sure why AP History is what you are relying on to prove Civil War is being removed from history curriculum.

So you posted the American History 1 high school course. Please find me a single place in the details curriculum a single item where the Civil War is discussed (battles, dates, generals, or any details). The curriculum is all about periods before the Civil War or after the Civil War (e.g. Reconstruction). It is all about studying the political, economic, and social trends -- which is what Common Core Standards are all about.
If you are going to post information about a totally different history course in North Carolina -- you should at least have the decency to read it completely and see that it does not cover the Civil War history at all in the curriculum.
And let me ask -- don't you find it strange that the 8th grade "History of North Carolina" course does not even mention the Civil War. It's like for an 8th grader the Civil War never even happened according to their history class.
