Just out of curiousity what is your socialist country that you're referring to?

Belgium, but I left the country because of these high taxes. All over Europe we have the same problem. Our government is now worldchampion in deficit spending. They take about 55% of GNP and still have a 3% deficit year after year. A child that is born receives already a debt to pay of about EUR 40,000. Calculated only on the working population it is about EUR 75,000 per person. AND STILL INCREASING.
But people who don't work receive over EUR 1000 every month for doing nothing and there is no limitation in time. I know somebody who left school at 18 and went on pension at 65 without ever working. Belgium is also for this the worldchampion.
I refuse to pay for these kind of things, so I moved.
Belgium is a country for idiots (who wants to pay so much taxes that are wasted?) that is run by idiots.

PS: Every time when there are elections people vote again for these idiots. And one week later already they start to complain that they have an idiot government. Shows how idiot these voters are. Or maybe they are masochistic?

I know a few people in their 30's who have never worked, but not sure if they'll be able to get away with it for another 30 years!(UK) Not even sure you get a state pension in the UK if you've never worked.
Still, lots of people do it in the UK, because you end up getting about the same amount of money as you would do in a fulltime a low paid job (since government pay your rent and give you jobseekers allownce money every 2 weeks, and free prescriptions etc etc),
only you never have to get out of bed!
So unless you are clever and destined for a well paid job, you can kind of see the appeal to some people.
(work all the hours God sends to pay for my rent and have a tiny bit of spending money left over, or relax all day and take it easy without getting bossed around and stressed out, get the government to pay my rent, and have the same amount of money left over as the mug who goes to work everyday next door!)

In my country socialist voters have the following characteristics:

• low or even no education
• no job and not interested to work
• think that only others should contribute financially to the system
• depend all their live on money they receive from government or charity
• community should help their citizen, but they themselves never take any part in helping, only in cashing in they are interested

leftists or socialists who only benefit from the system but never contribute are criminals too. And their negative weight on the system is bigger than tax avoiders, as they only milk the system, tax avoiders at least pay some money to the system.

Belgium is small and unique and I am not familiar with it but I am Familiar with Netherlands and it doesn't reflect any of the characteristics you mention above, in fact it is incredibly productive and energetic for such a small country with high levels of education, employment, business, productivity, trade, research and inovation. Also, some of Europe's most prosperous and high quality of life countries have a degree of socialism (a kind of mix between capitalism and social democracy) such as Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Britain, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Within these countries social democracy voters follow None of the characteristics that you have mentioned above? Capitalism/Social democracy mix also exists in Japan, Australia and Canada and again None of the characteristics that you have mentioned above exists regarding these voters?

Basically the rate of retun of invested capital is higher than the rate of economic growth, so there is no chance that poor people will catch up with 1%.

I will not waste my time on your reaction, just a few facts will show clearly how the situation is:

• In the Netherlands were everything is fantastic like in milk and honey land the "socialists" who reigned for decades, lose massively seats in parliament. VVD and PVdA go from 79 seats to 27 seats, so losing almost 66% of their voters. At the same time the righ,t or for some extreme right, party PVV almost triples their seats and is now 50% bigger then VVD and PVdA together. That shows how satisfied and happy people are. • ET member Ditch lives in the Netherlands. Just check what he posts. Most of his postings are racistic and anti islam. Because in the Netherlands there is a HUGE problem as a result of the free invitation from leftist and socialists for homeless, illegals, african people without any education and from which most can even not read or write....
• All over Europe right parties are growing fast and left parties are shrinking.
• In Belgium the socialist party is almost completely wiped out.
• Merkel said: Wir schaffen das. But very quickly she took a 180° turn and now says that most of these illegals will have to go back. She is afraid of the reaction from her own voters.

Maybe check the Piketty theory. This theory attacks capitalism. According to that theory the part of salaries in GNP shrinks. Reality is that in all European countries the part of salaries in GNP ROSE! between 2007 and 2015. So just the opposite of what Piketty is telling is true for ALL Europe. Only for the US and for the UK the theory of Piketty is correct.

The platform of "free money for all (especially ne'er-do-wells)" is an EASY sell to garner votes and secure greedy, political power. That's why it's promoted... in spite of its ultimate disastrous consequences. Geez... don't people bother to at least take a freshman course in economics sometime in their lives??

Exactly. Economics serves a vital role in upholding the whole social structure as we know it. Its the pillar of modern civilization. With free money to all either the majority will degrade even further in their qualities because they are getting free money or it will soon end in outright war. And then you have people that call themselves economists - like Krugman - backing the free money for all approach. Clearly, getting a Nobel in economics is the modern day equivalent of your kids soccer participation trophy.
