MASSIVE DDOS ATTACKS ALL OVER U.S.

We are monitoring massive Distributed Denial of Service attacks all over the U.S. tonight starting at around 11:30 PM CST. As many as 5 of the 13 root nameserver have been down, up to 10 with massive packet loss (xx%):

I don't think this is worm related but as the techies are hanging out here hopefully I can get some quick thoughts.
I just tried to start my computer and it seemed to get stuck loading the BIOS when it started booting up. I then got a strange alarm type sound from the computer. I turned it off and tried rebooting. I got the same problem but without the alarm sound 3 or 4 times. Out of frustration I banged my computer with my fist (kinda like hitting the steering wheel when the car doesn't start or hitting the TV when it doesn't work) and lo and behold it started up but couldn't detect my wireless keyboard or mouse. I then rebooted again and my keyboard and mouse were detected.
Although I am glad that I finally got it booted up properly, I can't help thinking that there is a more serious underlying problem. Or is this perhaps a problem related to my wireless keyboard and mouse that I just installed last week.
Any thoughts.

This generally only works for moving parts -- so if your hard-drive acts up, you can bang the case really hard (usually a bat will give you more leverage).
Check your manual that came with your computer. Most BIOS have codes depending on the beeps. For instance, three short beeps might mean that the video-card is not detected or that there is a memory problem.
If it is beeping at you, is it a specific pattern? Your battery might also need replacing. How old is your computer and what is the make / model, etc?
