Quote from Bob111:
i agree on communication part
because i believe that driving suv does not make you safer. your driving skills do. i also believe(use to work at body shop and still have friend, who own one) that MB's are superior in safety over any suv, cause i know how they built.
look what world leaders are using for their rides.there is no f *volvo's.

i would like to see how the driver walk away from 120 mph crash from volvo or mdx
here is some truth for those, who believe that suv is "safer"-

SUV are safer than cars in a crash, it's basic physics. The link you have is about rollovers only which was a problem on the older suvs and Jeeps(deathtrap). Nowdays all luxury suv and most standard suv have rollover protection, this is a non-issue.
During a crash:
1) Taller wheelbase vehicle will always have an advantage over a lower vehicle.
2) A vehicle with more mass will always have an advantage over a smaller/lighter vehicle.
SUV is both taller and has more mass, cars are the latter.
------------------------------------------
Volvo do make some of the safest cars, go do some research, there are countless crashes where volvo saved their drivers life. Even though most cars nowdays are safe and 5 stars, i know for a fact volvo is much safer built compared to other vehicles. It's difficult to explain if you never took one apart, go checkout a volvo s80, the doors are built like a tank - solid and heavy. Then look at the doors of most other vehicles - much lighter. I dont drive a volvo because they only have average handling, but for my woman there is nothing better than a volvo to keep her safe.
------------------------------------------
The reason the driver survived that crash is because the vehicle was lucky enough to bump the side of the road almost in parallel - essentially acting as a break, then glided through. Of course the car is very well built as the roof did not collapse during the flip, but NOTHING will survive a 120mph crash where the car actually hits an obstacle.
We are in agreement that mb makes some great cars, but most of what you said is fundamentally wrong.
