Now both you and Chartwiz have both told us that you do your web-site design and building yourselves. I am scratching my head in bewilderment. I have always believed that an essential component of business was to present the best image possible. To my mind that means using professionals to do things right.

The idea of prosperous business owners using their amateur web-design skills (and precious time) to present their product in a way that leads potential customers to find links that don't work or pages that have not been proof-read or well structured is really mind-boggling to me.

Not a flame, just something to think about and intended to be constructive if taken the right way.

Dufferdon...........my site, Stocktrendwizard.com started as a hobby for me last year this time from xgiving to xmas.......I didnt anticpate the site attracting any business & I never marketed .....I guess I was bored & started it at the time..........I am actually in the process of having a new site developed & a new name & this is a seperate business totally & plan to do a huge amount of marketing with it .........BUT thats a seperate issue & when the time comes the time comes...its not a overnight project but is in the works............this is costing $$$$$$$ to start........I am not going to get into it & discuss it here BUT my site was is still a hobby of mine....I took a blank page & built my site little by little with no intention of more than saying i did it., although not the most professionaly built site because of my lack of skills & knowlegde of webdesign, you have to admit for knowing nothing I am getting along okay haha.......trying but This site wil be taken down sometime in 2002 to allow for the new one that will have been professionally built. my chatroom has a solid following & has nothing to do with my website, I do put my work there but its not really a vehicle to attract business.....its a hobby of mine.......something I did from boredom & still work on......but by no means do I feel its constructed professionally, it was all done by me reading how to do links & html & java script & this & that..........wait for the new one sometime in 2002 that will be real real professional............Chris

Beyond getting the job, does it really make a difference if someone interested becoming a trader at your firm knows someone on the inside? I read somewhere that you did not have a connection. Does the firm have support that teaches new guys how to use the systems, computers, software, etc? What was your experience. I can't imagine some big trader stopping in the middle of his day to show a newbie what keys to punch.

There is a full technical support / software training team to take care of those things. Although obviously, if it is something simple (like where do I load the news feed), it is always good if the trader next to you can give you a quick tip, it builds chemistry.

If you want it enough, you can get in with or without a connection, although a connection will always provide a softer landing.

A "rogue trader" is a trader who has gone from one firm to another, leaving a trail of unpaid bills and questionable business practices. Violation of rules, using other people's money, that type of thing. I thank the firm's who have saved us the hassle by alerting us of these people, and we do our best to do the same.
 
Our website provides the information necessary to the public, and invites people to contact us. Thanks for understanding that we need to keep in compliance with regulations and that changes are made constantly, and I cannot wait for them.

I am enlisting some "internal" help in January, and we will have a cooler looking site.

It's kinda funny, when I first put up the site in 1994 or 1995, I paid an outside developer who did a great job...really cool looking, got raves from people (back then)...but it was impossible for me to keep up with. So we went to a simple design with MS word, and it has served it's purpose to date.

I am sorry if you feel I put you down. Not my intention at all. But I must disagree. The design is in-house in fact. Does it matter?

I believe it is crucial. If a firm is trying to market, they are full of bells & whistles. If a firm is more concerned about speed and functionality, they will keep it simple. I believe Bright is in the latter.

It is considered very bad internet etiquette to publicly post private emails.

My comment, which was intended to be constructive, was not based on whether it was in house or not, but on who appeared to be doing it.

"Keep scratching that head of yours. Maybe the answer will come next time...."

It seems I got it right this time and that comment was a patronizing put-down, whether you intended it or not.

Hitman: Worldco trades a ton of listed. Is it all done via DOT?
What equipment or services are the bare bones minimum that a new trader can expect to start with? Any nasty desk fees or monthly usage $?
there is no sharing computers, right?
