That is called the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, abbreviated ARRA (Pub.L. 111-5) and commonly referred to as the Stimulus or The Recovery Act, which apparently everyone hated.Quote from olias:
I have only a basic understanding of things, but it seems to me that the War helped pull us out of the Great Depression because it got the government spending money on the war machine...sending soldiers overseas and opening up jobs to women and the otherwise unemployed.
My thinking is: why must we spend money on War, specifically? Let's use the money to do something a little more productive. The government should spend money to build shit and repair shit and hire people to do stuff....rather than give out all of this money for unemployment. Government needs to get creative and devise a way to get something for our money rather than give money away for doing nothing.
Anyway, my basic argument is that we don't need a war to get us out of this mess. We could get the same result by spending in other ways.

So judging by the OP, WWIII is preferable to government stimulus spending on infrastructure and technology.
Quote from SomeYoungGuy:
Who is going to fight who in WW3? I don't see any good enemies forming yet. China, Russia and the US will play a part by definition of size; it won't be a real "world war" unless we are all in it.
Where have you been? Russia is friends with Iran and Syria
Country's that Hate the USA seem to be forming up as we Speak!
even the British our only real friends are starting to Hate us...
China has enough people and land and natural resources already that they don't need any more, and they are doing just fine in the world economy. The Russians seem to be quite content stretching their free market wings after a few generations of communism.
I worry that my beloved US will end up the aggressor. The time is becoming right for some ambitious politician to ascend to national prominence on a platform of jingoistic pride, rallying the people to retake our place in domination of the world by any means necessary and cast off the restraints of foreign debt ownership. And the rest of the world won't have any of that nonsense and decide to give us a good decisive slap down.
