Quote from logic_man:

I remember some studies showing that more men overestimated their ability to trade, leading them to think that it was less risky than it actually is, whereas women had a more realistic assessment of their abilities and avoided trading as a consequence.

Everything in life is driven by biology and chemistry, so, ultimately, it's probably down to the differences in neurochemistry and sex hormones. They've even shown that you can tell a lot about a man's risk-taking propensities by measuring the ratio of his ring to index fingers, which varies according to the amount of testosterone to which he was exposed in the womb. Men who trade successfully have a more "masculine" ratio than the unsuccessful.

There is probably some wiggle room, but it would appear that great traders are as much born as they are made and more of them are born men than women.

So if my ring finger is longer than my index finger, should I close my account??

Inquiring minds want to know...:D

Here you go. What's interesting in the first study is that they say that short-term traders succeed with more masculine ratios, but that longer-term traders may succeed more with more feminine ratios. So, orient your trading time horizon around what your biology is best suited for. It's science.

I read something similar too, but I can't remember where. There were some studies that showed women are actually better suited to trading than men.

Here is an interesting article on WOMEN

More Men Enter Fields Dominated by Women

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/21/b...ek-success-in-jobs-dominated-by-women.html?hp

"He gave little thought to the fact that more than 90 percent of dental assistants and hygienists are women. But then, young men like Mr. Alquicira have come of age in a world of inverted expectations, where women far outpace men in earning degrees and tend to hold jobs that have turned out to be, by and large, more stable, more difficult to outsource, and more likely to grow."

Women believe in HIGHER EDUCATION which is why more men trades than women. Women do not want to lose. If they chose to trade, they will get a Higher Education degree first.

Higher Education is the key to become a successful trader.

HIGHER EDUCATION!!

Why going through the pain of becoming a successful trader when you can just marry one and milk him all the way to 100% drawdown? Isn't that the unltimate trend-following?

"Higher Education is the key to become a successful trader."

street smarts are more important for the type of trading you are referring to.
mbas have no edge.
