This isn't an African problem. This is directly linked to dollar strength and the energy markets. Food prices are going to be volatile through the next decade, and if we couple that with our own homegrown unemployment problem, we're going to have some serious issues.

i wrote about food shortages in the near future because of economic difficulties in a paper three years ago and i was called alarmist and laughed at.
