So even as a youth, Trump was an asshole. Typical.
His behavior is derived from his brain which has had had all his life. He is incapable of being more than he is. Of course part of the problem is he is more in some areas, while he has little or highly conditional empathy he wants some things very intensely.
It was partly because Trump is what is is since birth I picked Bugenhagen from the Omen. Trump like others like him are irredeemable, you will only get hurt trying and then realise you should have eliminated them from your life when could could without looking back. They make excellent cult leaders is all.
One day hopefully repairs can be made to the brain, the problem with narcissists is they won't believe you they have a problem, actually they don't, it's everyone around them suffers.
That's kind of why I was picking on the serotonin thing. That was BS. I have had a serotonin imbalance my entire life, and Zoloft worked for a while. If he has some physical damage to his brain that makes him a narcissist, a simple drug will not help him. It's not serotonin, it's not a lack of dopamine...It's just...He's an asshole.
I also have had serotonin imbalance from between 9 till 28 the black duck of depression was with me for half the year. I was given every possible treatment short of electro shock and even that was discussed. I finally figured out that on my case it was an intestinal flora problem. The vast majority of the serotonin is made the gut, whether or not this gets past the blood brain barrier or not, your intestines literally have a brain of their own, they are independently controlled by neurons similar to the brain. They heart has some neurons, memory cells, to use for timing.
So beef specifically was my problem and of course it was so ubiquitous in my diet, several times a week it was something I never had a long enough gap from to realise until I went off meat for a few weeks. The beef would knock the shit out of my intestinal serotonin, this got my guts tense and then my brain would sympathetically get out of whack.
Looking back the reason I became a sniper is obvious, on some level I understood my depression was connected stress and snipers are all about managing that. Nearly every other dammed sport involved saying cool and above the fray. Then of course trading, which without the guts being unhappy, combined with all the mental training I had was a piece of piss. Came right in the end, the depression years where no joke but I'd keep them as it was not too late in life I found my fix and depression gives one some insight into deeper stuff (also pork, lamb, chicken, fish don't have any negative effect).
In Trump's case scans showing biomarkers are diagnostic but not the problem. There is no current way to fix him as his mind is literally missing what others have, not just temporarily affected by too much or little of neurotransmitters

In your case, time eventually healed your wound, as it did mine. In Trump's case, time will not heal his wound, because he never found his center, as you did, in sniping.
Time did not really as it did not go away without action, had I not observed the connection I'd be dead by now
I was pretty solid death wish for a few years there.I did not really find my centre with all that, I was trying to but it was like trying to play a banjaxed guitar from 9 to 28, until the body was rid of the toxin, I was unable to be much of anything really productive.
I did meet quite a few malignant narcissists in Africa and the best thing to do is, if you can, just kill or otherwise remove them from your world. Don't fuck around, they are monsters. Don't have them around kids or mentally vulnerable ever.
