Windows 64 bit problems

Hi guys,

I was wondering in someone can help me?

I just bought a new machine with a Gigabyte P35-DS3R motherboard.

I successfully installed windows 64bit professional OEM, although it took three attempts.

I did the install without the ethernet cable connected to the machine.

I then plugged in the ethernet cable and installed the drivers for the motherboard.

When the machine rebooted, neither my keyboard or mouse worked. So now I can't log-in or even select safe mode to reboot in. And I can't re-intall the OS as it won't boot from the disk.

Now either this is a driver conflict or possibly, XP is shutting me out because it thinks I have illegally installed the OS.

I purchased the OS from a legit vendor and it has never been installed on any other machine.

Any ideas on what the problem is and how I can fix it?

unless you have an app reason to use 64 bit, the best help I can offer is to get rid of the 64 bit and install regular XP.





The advice is free.
To you, the value of my advice is probably equivalent to free (ie. zero) as well.
 
Did you check whether you installed the correct 64 bit drivers ?

No way I would recommed to switch back to 32 bit.

XP x64 is a completely different OS (from XP) and it is far superior and much more stable.

XP and XP x64 only look the same way, as I said, below the surface they are totally different
 
The motherboard is tested for use with windows vista and the driver CD has a label on it that says "64bit ready". So I assumed the drivers are 64 bit compatible. But they may not be.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a computer to boot from the CD within the bios. The bios are the only thing I can get to work at present.

I'm thinking that if your cpu isn't a 64 bit chip then Windows Professional 64 bit OS is not going to work or will not work properly.

Try reinstalling Windows XP 32 bit version to see if that will install.

How were you able to install the correct driver? I thought the keyboard and mouse were not working.
