Not going to happen, ever. Not until the assholes that live along the coasts of this country stop whining about offshore windfarms "blocking their view of the horizon on the ocean", and how many seabirds it kills, thus killing the ecological chain, thus killing all life on earth, as they zip around town in their internal-combustion SUVs to pick up that quart of milk they forgot, or to get to the gym so they can ride the exercise-bike for an hour.

Actually there are thousands in the North Sea that nobody can see (see what I did there!). If you go far enough out they're not visible, and a shockingly large part of the East Coast waterfront is in places like NC and Virginia where there really isn't anyone who is anyone living on the water, unlike say Martha's Vineyard and the Cape.
