Will you stay with Cyber/Schwab if they only offer per trade pricing?

I am narrowing down my list of brokers. One that seems really interesting is TradeKing.com. Take their tour. Plenty of trading tools. and some of the best prices I have seen.
Pricing is secondary to me. I will call on Monday. I have plenty of questions.
One thing they definetly have over CT is their cash and buying power balances, immediately updated in real time

As far as Java based programs being slow, every demo I downloaded that was java based was extremely slow. I agree, stay away.

I short 4000 shares of SVN at 1.38 using their crappy SmartEx. I go to bid 2000 on ARCA at 1.30 and get filled. I look at my position and it shows I am long 2000 SVN and Short 4000 svn. I ask Live help how is that possible and they don't answer for 4 minutes. I try and enter another bid for 2000 on ARCA and I get a message that says I can't use ARCA since I have a long and short position in the stock and I need to use the SmartEx. ridiculous this crappy software.

I place my bid get filled and now it shows I am long 2K and Short 2k.

I reply in the live help while I am still waiting for a response that I closed out the position and they need to clear my account, and that their new software is terrible.

What a clusterfuck.

wow, when if first started trading i was long a position that was in a downward sprial. so to hedge the position I went short the same stock x shares.

F**ucked their software up. had to call in b/c i couldnt close. their moronic (in retrospec) broker says i went short against the box?

Joeybell,

Checkout Direct access elite. Same Identical websit(different color) as Cobra. Whats up with this???

Funny that you ask...I noticed the same thing late yesterday. I'll inquire Monday morning and post my results.

I'm leaning towards Noble. They have bent over backwards working with me, making sure their software is comparable to my needs. Their pricing is better than what I was getting at Schwab, so this may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

Again, I average about 10 days trades per day, all equities, with sometimes high volume (minimum 5,000 shares...sometimes as high as 20,000 shares per trade). Sometimes it's better to work with smaller companies as they will be bend over backwards for your business.

One thing I like about Schwab is the fact that they will be there monday morning. I'm sure brokers like those some of you are looking at offer good deals, but what about the trust factor? Do you really trust your funds with them? I understand the funds are held at a clearing agent like Penson, but the broker has all your info and I have to wonder how secure it is. Plus, it's not clear to me what happens if they go belly up.

Now what troubles me about Schwab is they don't have the same sort of apparently iron-clad fraud gaurantee that ETrade for example offers. Of course, that guarantee is not worth much if ETrade goes bankrupt.

Hi ,
I am sure you can receive nice individual fee offer from Pinnacle (my broker). They are really friendly and good company. Penson based accounts, direct access software (Level II) and so. And they are in business for several years.
Ask them for individual offer - it is my recommendation.

Richard...Richard Koza, right? This is the third or fourth time you've tried to sell this broker to me. Is this a pyramid type scam or what? Either way, I'm not interested, so please discontinue me from your ad campaign!

Hey Gang,

Anybody familiar with Speedtrader? I've used them before years ago and they seemed pretty good.

I'm going to try the Simulator this week.

So frustrated with being stabbed in the back by this move to Schwab! I was screwed by Schwab back in late 1999 early 2000 and now I have to deal with these idiots again!

Unbelievable!! Right when I was really nailin it.........Hard enough to be successful in this biz and then to have this happen!

I appreciate anyones thoughts!

Smacky

By law all accounts must be backed by the FDIC. They cover up to $100,000 in cash and all securities. There discount houses do not hold your money. Thats why they use entitys like Penson.

Its all safe. No need to be so paranoid.

factually incorrect.
all accounts are backed by SIPC. they cover up to $500,000 in securities and $100,000 cash.

in a liquidation all securities are frozen. you cannot close your positions during the liquidation procedure which can take months to complete.
