There’s some truth here but net/net immigration and border issues are electorally a loser for democrats. Democrats get jammed up because they keep trying to protect dreamers and they get hammered for all things border by republicans.

The border is truly a Republican football. Trump’s number one issue was a border wall which the republicans could have included in any budget, if they could ever pass a budget. Dreamers legislation needs full senate to enact.

Trump offered Dreamers a path, almost 2 million, and now Republicans are getting more Hispanic support....if the Dems had a brain they know now is the time to make deal....

Well a wall is pretty stupid but democrats were willing to fund Trump's wall in exchange for dreamers.

To be fair to Trump, even though he is a cad and scoundrel, I actually think he would have made the deal but the base of the party was against all things dreamers and the deal went up in flames has Trump pulled the plug.

Yup. But even if one argued for the presidential system per the constitution there is a legit argument to amend the constitution to add a recall mechanism of some sort. It should not be easy and should involve the people, not just the beltway game players. And maybe just involves removing the sitting president and not triggering another full election. No one needs that. It sounds messy but in reality it also avoids messes where people start playing excessively with impeachment or the 25th when in fact it is just a performance issue.

My thinking is not fully formed there. But there is a lot of chaos in the parliamentary system too. There is Britain, then there is Italy which is magnitudes worse. Yikes. Government of the month is not what I have in mind.

I don’t see keeping the presidential system and a recall amendment that goes to the people as practical. There’s too much power in our executive branch for random turnovers. That’s too political IMO and would put power in the political parties rather than the elected representatives, as in a parliamentary system.

Heh, the parliamentary system is all about putting power in the hands of political parties.

Anyway, as a practical matter, these situations are about like the electoral college issue. People get all fired up but for better or worse it requires a constitutional amendment which is not going to happen. We have heard it all before. If dems put the same amount of effort into finding a strong candidate as eliminating the electoral college would require, they would be winning the electoral college. Ditto for the incompetence issue with Joe. If dems had put the same amount of effort into finding a strong candidate as coming up with an amendment to recall/remove/dispose of him would require they could would a candidate that is not a dufus who needed to removed.

And to move to a parliamentary system, well, let's just say that would take LOTS of work so that is sort of a spinning your wheels exercise.

The dems inflicted Joe and Kamala on to the country and now they are destroying the country. It is what you wanted even though you were warned. Now more and more of them want him out. We are all screwed. And other countries are screwed too. A vote for Biden was a vote to give Putin a green light. Now Ukraine is becoming a parking lot. You dems did that.
